699 for a Remington 870? Jeez..
That looks to be about the going rate for an 870 Police or 870 Wingmaster. The 870 Express is the cheapo version (and I say that as somebody with a couple of 'em, and no Wingmaster or Police). The materials are better (the Express gets a plastic trigger group), fit and finish is better, etc.

Here's a good thread on the differences: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_1/177796_.html

Yeah, my Mossberg 600AT was worth a whole lot more than I thought it was when it was stolen in the house burglary. Got it in a trade to install some ceiling fans.
It was drilled and tapped for a scope, sling swivels installed, better innards, etc.
Deputy told me that I was way undervalued when he was putting a price on items stolen since he had the same model.

Lol... didn't know that. Paid 389 For mine new with 2 barrels when I turned 18.
Never realized they went up that much in the police/wingmaster line since then cause it still runs like new. Haven't needed another shotgun since.
Guess that's the investment they were talking about in the article

Protesters express urgency in removing Glanz from office

We the People is a group gathering signatures calling for a grand jury investigation of Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz.
The group is holding cookouts around Tulsa in its final week before their petition deadline.
They have 4,000 of the 5,000 required signatures.

Grilling hot dogs and the sheriff, a group gathering signatures to force a grand jury against Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz is making a new push to get the signatures they need.

The group, called We the People, have more than 4,000 of the 5,000 signatures needed to start a grand jury investigation.

In the final weeks signatures can be collected, the group is offering to fill the bellies of people willing to join their cause.

For more than a month, We the People Oklahoma has been gathering signatures seeking an investigation into the Tulsa County Sheriff’s role in the shooting death of Eric Harris by reserve deputy Bob Bates.

Organizer Marq Lewis said the group is close to its goal, but they want to be over the top with signatures and support when they deliver the petition.

“These are everyday citizens,” said Lewis. “We are not getting paid for this. There are everyday citizens out here just taking up charge, believing in themselves and knowing that the system will work for them.”

In its final weeks, the group is now firing up the grill not just to cook up hotdogs, but to turn the heat up on the sheriff.

The group has planned four cookouts this week in every corner of Tulsa, hoping to catch people hungry at dinner time.

“This is the only law that we have as citizens to take the power into our own hands, and convene a grand jury and force his resignation,” said Lewis, “so they can come in and recommend that he step down.”

Battling the summer sun, Glen Graham rallied support at the cookouts. He believes the sheriff passed blame and repute on to deputies to distract from his office’s actions. He says Bates received special treatment in being allowed to vacation in the Bahamas.

“He can blame everyone else and fire everyone that’s under him,” said Graham, “but, ultimately, the buck stops with Sheriff Glanz.”

The deadline for We the People to get 5,000 signatures is Monday, June 15th.

The group will be located in north Tulsa on Monday at Pine Street and Lewis Avenue, east Tulsa on Tuesday at 45th Street & Garnett Road, west Tulsa on Wednesday at 51st Street & Union Avenue and
south Tulsa on Thursday at 71st Street & Riverside.

The events will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

TCSO: Petition gathering may have been illegal
Jun 10, 2015

We the People, the group behind the petition to oust Sheriff Stanley Glanz, has been working for weeks to get signatures.

On Tuesday, the group said it had 6,000 signatures . They needed 5,000 certified signatures to convene a grand jury.

But Terry Simonson with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office said the group's methods for gathering those signatures was illegal.

"It's against the law to induce somebody with something of value to sign a petition, so you can't promise them food. You can't say, 'I'll give you a hot dog, if you give me your signature'," said Simonson.

On the Facebook page for We the People of Oklahoma, petition organizers mention food and drink at their events. There are even photos of visitors getting food.

However, the organizer, Marq Lewis, says there's nothing illegal about that.

Lewis says it is a political rally and you can serve food at political events. Plus, he said some people just stop by only to get a hot dog, while others stop by only to sign the petition. He said people are not told they must sign the petition to get food.

Lewis says he's confident the petition will be certified and the grand jury will convene.

"The will of the people has spoken, and we're asking Sheriff Glanz to step down," said Lewis.

We the People plans to take the signatures to the county clerk next week.

There are an estimated 630,000 residents in Tulsa Co, so they got less that 1% over the course of 45 days. It may stand, but that seems a little weak. JMO, YMMV

Don't you have to be a registered voter to sign these petitions? Or is that only ballot initiatives?

If it's the former, that reduces the eligible signer population by a fairly good amount. A brief Google shows 325k as of 2012. So make that 2% :D

Not only registered voter but non-felon, too. Explains a lot about their chosen locations for sign-ups.

I agree about that number of signatures being pretty weak sauce.

PRESS RELEASE
SUBJECT: PETITION SIGNING
Tulsa, OK June 12, 2015: It has also come to our attention that individuals have attempted to infer
that our signatures were invalid because we had food at 4 petition sites from Monday June 8th to
Thursday June 11th. The hotdogs were a community event we sponsored for everyone in Tulsa
County and to thank our volunteers. No one in the community was required to sign the petition in
order to receive a hotdog. Hotdogs were given to anyone who wanted one including children, the
homeless, people not registered to vote, people who were new to the state and even a few stray
dogs. After contacting the Oklahoma Ethics Committee we have been advised we have not broken
any laws. We have been and will continue to be in compliance with all state laws, rules and
regulations. To suggest we were paying for signatures with ketchup, mustard and ballpark franks
shows that the representatives of the Tulsa County Sheriff Office are afraid of the community
coming together in an effort to seek out the truth. Over 6,000 signatures were gathered before
Monday June 8 and they are attempting to try anything to stifle the voices of the people of Tulsa
County. This desperate tactic is not new. Representatives from the Tulsa County Sheriff Office have
attempted to prevent dialogue and debate regarding our petition by threatening a suit for libel or
slander and improperly using the name of Tulsa City employees to further their case.
For 25 years the public has been kept in the dark, it’s time to shine a light on the Tulsa County
Sheriff Office. WE THE PEOPLE OKLAHOMA call on all citizens to make their voices heard and let
the TCSO know that we will not be prevented from using our first amendment rights. We as
citizens have the right to make sure that our elected officials are doing what is best for the interest
of the community and not their or their friends/families own personal gain. We encourage all
Tulsa County citizens to get involved in seeking the truth. For more information on locations to
sign the petition please visit our website at www.wethepeopleoklahoma.com or call 918-947-
9080.
