Again, it has nothing to do with actually seceding, it is about sending the message. These have been done before, but they never reached the required 25000 sigs for an official response. The .gov will have to respond now, by their own rules, they have to respond. Would you rather have 84000 armed Texans marching on washington? The petition is a good way to send the message that the only reason Obama got reelected was because Romney wasn't good enough. Notice the house and senate didn't change much either. This election was more "I'll wait to see what our options are next time."

25K via an internet petition isn't a message...it's pissing in the wind. There will be no meaningful, binding, or even official "response" from the White House. Any response will be typed by a 19 year old college intern and never get 'staffed' above the closest janitor to the yahoo typing it.

Fifty nine million people voted against the current president in the last election. Do you think they will give a flying f-ck about twenty five thousand internet signatures on a website? Come on.

84K Texans marching on Washington would result a bunch of bewildered and exhausted Texans wandering around Phoenix trying to get their bearings...and cleaning the nearest gas station shelves of munchos and beer.

So would 25,000 people who signed a petition demanding the government address gun control mean the same thing? After all, they could just be trying to send the message that the .gov response during Obama's first time wasn't good enough.

I would rather hope that maybe it would have an impact, seeing as how 47 states now have petitions. Something has to be done, at least these people are trying. I'm pissed off that it has come to this.

And by the way, they didn't have the internet back in the 1850s. News traveled very slow back then. These days, with a 24-hour news cycle, things can get heated much faster.

We've reached a point in this country where half of the nation supports a man who campaigns for president on the basis of class warfare, wealth redistribution, "revenge" politics, and encouraging government dependency.

Is that the Romney campaign or the Obama campaign you're talking about here?

I am against secession by any state, and will oppose it to include the loss of whatever is left of my life. It isn't funny to me.

This whole Texas seceding topic aside, why would you oppose a population's right for self-determination?

You would sacrifice your life to force a population that didn't want to be part of your society, to be part of your society?

Haven't read past page one, but folks, secession really pushes one of my buttons. I recall telling a gun store customer who was spouting off about it that I would gladly kill him in the street if he tried to destroy my country. That's how I feel. This is my country, and I love it with all its warts, and any sumbich that wants to break it up will get maximum resistance from me.

I think many of you know I am pretty laid back about most stuff, but not this. Maybe it's fun for some to talk about, and one certainly has the freedom to talk about it in this country, but to act on it is different.

Yea for Texas leaving the union? Not me, and I was born there. I can assure you that most Texans think this is bullcrap.

You threatened to kill someone while both of you were in a gun store?

I am...........I got nothing.

A question for you SoonerATC: why do you consider 25,000 butt scratching, nose picking, booger eating individuals to be representative of the population of Texas? Why? That's the "why" we have to start with.
