One of the biggest problems that we have is that you can't select the needed programs, you have to sign up for all of them to qualify for any. I have two daughters, both single mothers with two kids each. They get little if any support from the semen donors and have applied for help with daycare for the kids, the oldest is 4. Without help, their daycare runs over $400/week for daycare. So their options are not work, stay home with their kids, be completely dependent on the government, work the night shift so we can watch the kids, but then they would have to sleep in the daytime, and no one to watch the kids, or ask for help with their daycare. They do not want housing, food stamps, or any other aid, they just need help with reduced daycare. For them to qualify, they must sign up for everything or they are accused of not being compliant and denied even the reduced daycare. That is a system that is broken.

The ones that don't pay taxes is what really pi$$es me off. I know people and so does Dennis that have well over 100 grand a year income and don't pay one damn dime in taxes. This to me is nothing but a bum. I was in the social security office signing up this past week (of which I've paid in for 42 years) and it amazed me that the walls were full of government instructions on how to get food stamps and other government assistance. Didn't see a lot of instructions on social security, I guess they figure the food stamps were more important.

That's a terrible way to look at it. People need help, help them. Punish those who take advantage. The biggest problem with welfare is the legislation loopholes and general qualifications for assistance.

I never said it was immoral to help people. But it needs to be people helping people, not this cold hearted violent government crap we have now.

That is likely accurate, given local and state taxes that are used in combined programs. Logically, if fed programs were eliminated (think 10th Amendment) and those costs returned to state choice, this map would look vastly different. Does the map account for ALL fed dollars, or is this JUST welfare?

A cynical person might say that the feds exert more control over the blue state voters, and are trying to buy the red state voters.

I may be wrong, but didn't Clinton and the republican congress pass a welfare reform bill when he was in office? That would account for a lot of the decline.

They did. The effects have been diminished by additional legislative adjustments to get it back to a handout, and not a hand up. One of the few positives from the Clinton stain.

A couple years ago one of my co workers left the company. Why? His words, "I can make more money on welfare than I can working"
Thousands of people like him have the same mind set, and they drive into their spawn.
