This will likely impact their sales, but not by all that much or that long. Some of us have long memories but most don't. That's just the way it is. I manage 24 tires for our household. I usually buy Michelin but I'm not welded to that choice. If something better exists I'll buy it. The only Goodyear tires I have are the OEM Duratracs on my ZR2. I was actually considering them come replacement time because they've worked better than expected and are a few bucks cheaper than BFG KO2's, but I think I'll spring for the BFG's instead. It's only 4 tires, but still...

Point taken, I'm guilty of jumping in too soon sometimes.
But it seems we do have some confirmation; Goodyear responding and not really denying that the slide is theirs.

They actually clearly stated the slide was not a corporate product and it was not part of any corporate sponsored or mandated diversity training.

So we have a bunch of triggered folks believing “sumdood” on the Internet but completely discounting the word of the company.

Where is the actual slideshow? Nobody else in the entire company saw it, has it, shared it? In the world of instant transmission of data and live bum fights on demand, the best we get here is a grainy big footish sighting of a damning corporate policy?

Come on

They did state that the slide wasn't a corporate item, but that doesn't mesh with what the Goodyear guy in our poker game said last night. He's pretty high on the local ladder. GY is rolling back their stance because of the backlash. They made a bad decision at the corporate level and instantly saw it turn sour.

I somewhat agree with you about the boycott. Even if Trumpeteers manage to bancrupt the company, corporate guys that perpetrated this will still get their millions, it's the blue collar working class that'll end up screwed as always.

I don't think a boycott is going to affect them much. Everything blows over in time. Look at Firestone. They knowingly sold tires that exploded at speed, and they're one of the largest chain of tire shops in America. Until the manufacturers dip out of contracts with Goodyear, they'll be fine. Plus, people just don't have principals like they used to. Just like Dick's and CheaperThanDirt, people will still buy the product because they're cheap and widely available.

How do you walk back something you clearly stated wasn’t a corporate policy in the first place?

Does anyone have any actual evidence that this was a Good Year policy and/or product developed for use in company training? Anyone?

Is it possible it was a policy of the local GY store?

My questions still remains: how do we fight back without hurting the little guys?
