I didn't do anything. I saw the whole thing coming even. Happens at Sonic too. You pay with your card and put 0 tip. Gotta wonder if that affects service even if you have cash for them. I don't know. Its obviously driven by the business, maybe credit card companies and software even. Just think it ends up being not good for the people that actually earn the tips.
Ok time for me to go on a rant about Sonic. I have worked on and off for Sonic since 2008 total of almost 3 years. It is fast food but easy cooking and was fun to work at. I worked for corporate and franchise stores, about the same really. So during the pandemic they got sold, no longer an Oklahoma company now. I went back last November to one of my old stores to cook. The new company is squeezing every penny out of each store they can. They are trying to do only online orders, some are getting ride of stalls entirely. But let me get back to the thing about tipping. So I made X per hour, corporate store, the car hops make a dollar less then I did, but get tips. As I said the are squeezing money out, so most mornings it was me and my General Manager and no car hop. So she makes salary, food cost bonus, labor bonus and get all the tips for the morning. Then you had other people come in usually Assistant Mangers or "shift leader" and they would car hop. These people made at least 5 bucks an hour more than me and got tips. I am in the back sweating, getting burned while everyone is on their phone while I make substantially less money than everyone else in that place. Plus my GM really thought us cooks were overpaid, what a kick in the scrotum that statement was. I got a really good income tax return and left. I wouldn't urinate on a Sonic if it was on fire, But that is just me.

Man that's actually enough for me to not go there again. Sucks that things were that unfair. Seems to be a lot of it going around.

Heck my first career year at ODOT in 1992, I made $7.33 an hour on a location survey crew. I thought I was in the "short rows" (some of you know what that means lol) because it was twice the min. wage of $3.25.
$1,733.33 a month net.
Now I'd starve to death on that.
I feel old lol
Damn, you work like 80 hour weeks?

Years ago I was listening to Bruce Williams on talknet radio. He related a story at a local restaurant he frequented about a waiter.
Bruce said he was eating his lunch when a waiter was walking by with a plate piled high with onion rings. He said he made an overt movement toward the plateful of delicious looking rings as if to steal one as he passed by. The waiter grinned at him and continued to the table that ordered them. Bruce said he watched the waiter assist other customers and slowly lost sight of him in the crowd.

Bruce then said I was almost finished with my meal and that same waiter showed up to his table with a small plate with three onion rings, compliments of the house.

He said he left the waiter a $100 tip.

That little story has stuck with me ever since and the waiter's action has been the foundation for my service technician career. Always put the customer first and go above and beyond what is expected.
I miss Bruce Williams. I learned a lot from him in the 80s/90s.

I go to a restaurant in town a few times a month and I almost feel like Norm in Cheers. I never order, they just bring me my drink and food. The waitresses there knows what I want and it is always hot and fresh. We also talk most of the time I am there about regular stuff going on in our lives.

These kind of workers are rare and they get rewarded for their great service.
