You know, Norman started installing the new vertical left turn signals around 15 years ago, replacing the old 5-light two-column left turn signals. I didn’t see any reason to make the switch and I didn’t care for the new ones until I noticed something—the new vertical left turn signals with the extra lights will go to a flashing yellow left arrow when the oncoming through lights turn green even if there’s nobody on your side to turn the through lights green. That means you don’t have to sit through a complete cycle of the lights just because you got to the intersection just after the oncoming lanes got greens.Strange traffic lights or traffic circles?
Being able to make the left turn while the rest of the lights on your side stay red is a welcome change.
