Never thought about tasting one; been using them for targets since I was knee-high to a grasshopper.

Great for bows, fence posts, walking sticks, clubs and anything else you need that’s capable of smashing concrete and lasts for a century

Be careful if using it for firewood. It burns almost as hot as a creosote pole. Also, once the wood heats up, the constant shower of sparks can transform your fireplace into a miniature fireworks display.
Years ago people said the gooey wet stuff was basically the same as what they put in "Roach Pruf" cockroach killer

It definitely repels bugs and critters...you have to carve a piece into a stick and then start beating them with it.
This is a horse bow made from Bois d'arc. It has about a 23" pull and would probably punch an arrow through a couple people stacked up.
When you cut bois d"arc, it'll be a really bright yellow. It'll dry to a steel gray and when you work it and oil/wax it, it'll turn this nice golden color...like a fried chikin color. It's actually really nice but it's heavy, hard, and will destroy all your tools.

Very hard, dense, rot resistant. The term Bois d'arc came from French settlers, after the Osage indians showed them how useful the wood was.
