Eh, maybe. It's a slang term so I'm not sure there's an official definition. I'm not sure what "cancel culture" actually means, and I'm not real big on boycotts, but I thought I'd throw that out.

Boycotting and cancel culture are fairly different. Cancel culture makes you disappear. Kind of like how Facebook won’t let any audio of President Trump on their platform. Made his account disappear. Like how Twitter got rid of the presidents Twitter account. Like how many other conservatives disappeared. Cancel culture makes books and movies disappear.

Boycotting in this sense is strictly a financial deal. Nobody is taking and making things disappear. In this instance they are not rewarding businesses with money because of what they are standing for. The businesses and companies aren’t disappearing or being canceled.

So the businesses in your example blacklisted him --- not canceled him. He's welcome to exist --- just not on their private platform where they, a private business, decided he broke the rules. That'd be a blacklist compared to twitter sending a hit squad to cancel him.

And again, here in this thread, if the vibe I'm getting is right there's two ways to go:
1 - Blacklist (e.g. cancel culture) a business by not shopping there are letting the chips fall where they may.
2 - Find a way to make the company disappear from the earth. (mis-interpreted cancel culture reference).

Now, another vibe in the thread, which could be stand to get clarified, how is a boycott different, or better than when the Dems do it? I thought we all hated when they did that. Are we sinking to their level to get beaten with experience?

In my mind boycotting is different than 'cancel culture'. If a business supports something I disagree with morally, I can choose to not give that business my money. You are still free to do so. I'm not advocating that they be shut down.

And example on a Youtube channel. If a youtuber is advocating for something I disagree with, I'll unsubscribe from them. I don't expect their channel to be removed from youtube (cancelled). You are free to watch it. I choose not to.

They are pretty different concepts for me.

My impression is that cancel culture is directed more at individuals while boycotts are directed at companies. The young lady who posted a message that the 'woke' crowd disagreed with and was fired due to progressive pressure is a victim of cancel culture. Individuals who decide not to purchase goods or services of a particular company are boycotting.

That's how I see it anyway.

Cancelling something means that no one should be able to see it and completely removing it from the table of options for the entire population. A boycott is typically suggesting that people of a certain moral belief do not support a company that operates counter to that belief. I boycott Levi's jeans because they financially supported anti-2A initiatives. Ive never told someone else they shouldn't buy their products and I didnt throw away any products already purchased. I just dont give them anymore money to send to political movements that aim to harm my way of life.

The difference between what is being suggested here and what the new left wing movement is doing is that we arent crying for something we disagree with to be removed from everyone. We are just suggesting that people of a similar set of beliefs to our own may want to second guess sending business their way because it is being used to undermine what we stand for.

Sounds like you may not comprehend the meaning. Look in the dictionary and read the definition of boycott. Then lookup blacklisted.

I did a study in college way back in the last year of the 60's about businesses and who own them.
Pretty shocked to see the final result and some of the political family's that owned them.
Kennedy's were one. Joe Kennedy did business with Germany during WWII. He was an incredibly complex person.

Actually consumer boycotts can work. Earlier in my career, the company I was with sponsored the NFL “Halftime Show”. By the second year of our sponsorship, we received so many complaints from consumers telling us they will not buy our products that we pulled the plug on sponsorship.
