I am a former high school teacher with experience in smaller schools to inner city schools. I for one believe, and have believed, that some teachers should be armed without students/parents/teachers knowing until a case or situation is to arise. The Caveat of arming teachers and staff is that mental screening will need to be vigorous, the ability to function under stress is mandatory, and true training exercised to insure it will be effective. Over the years I taught with people who in no way were stable enough to carry a firearm, much less act under stress, in a school environment. Not all adults can make the decision to stop a threat, especially if they are a bleeding heart that fills many schools today.

Ive thought about armed and trained teachers and the one issue i see is what happens if thet have to engage a shooter? how many shots are fired at a soldier before the fight instinct kicks in? i dont know how the military trains if someone can fill us in how they prepare.

It's best not to over-analyze. People did that with concealed carry as well...saying it will become the wild west, etc etc. Yet, CC is there in all states to some degree, and people carry daily in crowded places, prevent over 1.5 million crimes a year, and there is no panicked or hysterical shooting.

CC has proven to reduce crime (see the book "more guns less crime" by John Lott)
98% of mass shootings happen in gun-free zones. So if it's OK for our kids to stay in non-gun free zones for most of their time, why do they have to be in a "gun-free' zone in a school?

Well then the solution presents itself. Extend the gun-free zones.
