I can see it now - TSA Accidentally Blows Up Jetliner.

"Oops, we thought it was a dummy bomb to test our screening system but somehow the real C4 was used instead."

C4 alone is basically an inert material. From wikipedia:

C4 is very stable and insensitive to most physical shocks. C4 cannot be detonated by a gunshot or by dropping it onto a hard surface. It does not explode when set on fire[3] or exposed to microwave radiation[4]. Detonation can only be initiated by a combination of extreme heat and a shockwave, such as when a detonator inserted into it is fired.

Why do they have to buy it, dont we already have this in stock? How many manufacturers of c4 are there?

Same with fertilizer, take the dog to the feed store, they'll prolly give ya a hundfull to train a dumb dog.

Redog1 keep up the good work, i wish that preppers section would get done.

I don't really figure TSA is in to keeping 700 pounts of c4 chillin for a rainy day, although they might.

And walk into a feed store and buy ammonium nitrate huh? Do tell, what feed store in say the entire state of Oklahoma stocks it? Can you find one? Not urea nitrate, but full in ammonium. There is a difference. One goes boom such as tannerite, the other is basically piss with nitrogen. Since you posted that statement, I'll give you $20 if you can find a stocking dealer of it in say 100 miles of the metro. If a store isn't a stocking dealer, why not just buy it straight from the chemical plant like they did.

A TSA dummy bomb made with real C4 and a real detonator? It is possible, but my post was mainly a humorous jab at the "highly competent TSA."

Human security "experts" make dumb mistakes. Consider this one -
Even more embarrassing was a security survey carried out by Slovakian border officials earlier this year using real explosives. Eight pieces of contraband were planted on unwitting passengers leaving on a flight from Bratislava bound for Dublin. The 85g (3oz) charge of RDX slipped into a 49-year-old electrician's bag was not removed by security checks and the passenger flew to Ireland unaware of what was in his luggage. Slovakian officials eventually had to contact police in Dublin to explain the error.

Dude, did you really just compare us to Slovakian border guards? :(

FWIW, we don't do tests with real deal explosives & detonators. They're 100% inert. The dog teams do their sniff tests in a completely isolated area that's not used for commercial flight ops.
