Turkey Mountain--firearm ban

Hi, all.

Quick question about Turkey Mountain Wilderness Area west of Tulsa. Their signage prohibits firearms in the park. If I'm reading OK law correctly, it very clearly states that cities cannot ban firearms in parks. Am I missing something?

Well, the SDA says "Park, Recreational Area, and Fairgrounds".

Doesn't say "Wilderness Area". Maybe they think they have a loophole.

Thanks very much for the update and links. I've only lived in OK for a little over a year, so it was very helpful to read that background info. Strange that the signage at Turkey Mountain still reflects the old, illegal policy. Or maybe not so strange, given the way some city council members spoke and acted about the whole deal. Anyway, thanks again.

Yeah I don't remember seeing the signs out there....
Of course I don't look for the either.
Typically is be out there tomorrow and I'd look but I'll be out west taking my boy on the youth hunt.

The signs carry no force of law. Oklahoma has a preemption law and the wilderness area doesn't meet any of the exemption requirements.

Turkey Mountain is part of Tulsa City/County River Parks Authority. So... carry away.

I thought some of the trails went onto/thru private property. if so, maybe thats where you see the signs.
