Having a cure is nowhere near as profitable as a pill that is prescribed for rest of your LIFE.
Or vaccine that is followed by endless boosters.

Good point. If we ask for certain drugs from our Dr. we can be labeled as self medicating. Weird system we have come to know.
This! They banned cigarette ads, why can't they ban prescription drug ads? They have no business advertising drugs that require a doctor's prescription to buy. They are only prescribed when needed and that decision is made by the prescribing physician, not the marketing department for the drug.
It's ****ed up. I suffer from two neck injuries when I was around 5 years old. Been in pain my whole life (I'm 74) In order to get pain medication I have to go to a special pain management center, do pee tests, and if for any reason they see fit, they can just cut the prescription off. I never abuse it, Ive seen addiction and want no part of it. I almost always have some left over at the end of the month. Either you use it or it uses you. But for all intents and purposes they've taken away my God given right not to hurt, unless through the gub'mints beneficence, they grant me a pass. If they take away my 'right not to hurt' I'll get by, but I'll wont so easily forgive taking away my rights.
What industry isn't trying to make a profit? Which is worse, fast food industry or big pharma? Which one reduces folk's life expectancy? Which one can increase one's life expectancy? Both have their motives. What would stop big pharma? Big government? There's thread after thread and post after post here on osa where folks are not in favor of more government. I'm pretty thankful for my insulin. I would have been gone about 30y ago without it. Could they have cured type 1? Not sure. Everyone knows the cure for type 2, and folks would rather eat terrible and continue to be diabetic lol. If you don't want them to make a profit, don't buy their products lol.
Prescriptions aren't the only factors involved, and not every drug affects everyone the same, both good and bad. It's not as simple as you suggest, if it were, the data would be out there for all to see.
It's difficult to explain the "bent carrot" adds on the radio when the grandkids are in the vehicle.
Many years ago, when first going to the VA for care in OKC there were tons of folks in wheelchairs in the hallways and so on.
My issue wasn't that severe, so I felt kind of guilty walking the full distance through the halls for a visit with the DR.
I kind of joked with him that maybe I should limp a little or something, but he said 90% of them were amputees because they didn't take care of their diabetes. Refused to stop the issues that caused them no matter how many body parts were cut off.
