I believe I read somewhere that the original planned route was across tribal land but the tribes wanted too much money to allow it - apparently water quality wasn't an issue at that particular point. Have also read that many/most members of the tribe do not support the protest and that many/most of the protestors are from outside.
Also believe I've read that there's a new water plant under construction that should be on line within the next few months and obtains its water from a different source.
Also understand that truck or train shipments have a generally higher risk of leaks/spills than pipelines(?), and are much less friendly to the environment due to emissions(?).

From my perspective this all looks like a typical case of "NIMBY".

Despite what one might see in a liberal color-by-numbers book, the protestors are whining about a legal pipeline. Maybe they should take a break and protest a legal election or legal gun ownership or legal ... hmmm ... I detect a theme.

Apparently, veterans are arriving in droves to help protect the protestors at Standing Rock.

Protect them from what? Winter? Pricking themselves with their safety pins? Stopping the protestors from trying to play “Cowboys and Indians” again?

I would suggest that such “patriots” would try to prevent the protestors from doing illegal activities like setting off propane bombs, destroying private property and setting things on fire. Even better ... they let the protestors meat Chuck Darwin.

As to assuming that veterans are “patriots” because they served, correlation does not imply causation. Most veterans are patriots for their service … but some are abject douche bags. Bowe Bergdahl, Bradly (Chelsea) Manning, John Kerry and Ted Kennedy (who is seven years sober this year) all served in the military and are examples of ********* veterans.

If that threatens your "gun toting conservative" safe-space, go phuck yourself.

Given your vast experience at receiving criticism, you should be able to handle it better than that. After all, he was not asking you to back up why you think the Republican Party has a platform based on racism.

My understanding is that the Standing Rock Sioux did not meet with the Army Corps of Engineers. However, the Army Corps of Engineers did meet with over 300 different tribes on over 50 occasions to discuss the route of the pipeline.

Fully permitted and vetted route. Standing Rock tribe was invited to the table and passed.

Protesters have trespassed on and destroyed private property during their little tantrum and then cried when their actions brought a police response.

The original movement has been coopted by professional protesters with bigger agendas and the peaceful protest, isn't.

Screw them.

How many moderators have posted in this thread vs users? 3 moderators and 7 users. Sounds like government work.

I read an article that said about 2000 veterans were heading up there to form a human shield and the way they tried to make it sound is that the majority of vets supported the protesters, I think 2000 vets is a small percentage of vets.

So is a "Like" considered a "post" or are you another product of the Texas educational system?
