The Senate recently passed a disastrous $970 billion farm bill that was really a welfare bill – 78 percent of the spending went for food stamps, which are now sent to a shocking 1 out of every 7 Americans.

Now the House is working on its own version, and it’s not much better. It spends almost as much – about $957 billion – and fully 79 percent of that is for food stamps!

Republicans may help Democrats spend $756 billion on food stamps over the next 10 years. Is that what this Congress was elected to do? Lock in Obama's legacy of 1 in 7 Americans being on food stamps?

It is. BUT we need to go back to letting the farmers grow, harvest and produce. Stop paying them not to grow! We can get rid of welfare fraud by bringing back comodities and bring farm jobs back by planting and producing a product. My biggest pet peeve is turning food in to fuel. How many bushels of grain does it take to make a goallon of ethanol?

Not going to make much ethanol this year with the drought around the corn belt. A couple of plants have already shut down in the Iowa area. You will never find anyone in agreement in the farming areas that agree that corn based ethanol was ever a good choice.
Best thing that can happen in many areas is to make sure they have to drug test welfare receipants. Now there is a part where they don't even have to try to find work to get money. THEN kick the illegal aliens out that are getting everything free.

We do need to help those really in need, I doubt anyone here would disagree with that, but a large percentage of the people getting welfare and food stamps really need a job and I think most would rather have one. Problem is that is not going to happen as long as Obama is in the WH and the Dems control the Senate.

On a side note, even though the GDP for the second quarter was revised downward to 1.5, Obama's top economic adviser says the economy is moving in the right direction. The GDP was 4.1 the final quarter of last year.
