Well, I think the capacity for intelligence versus the accumulation of knowledge is what is being argued here. A homo sapien from any time in history, if born today, would have the capacity to understand anything our children learn now. It's just that we've had the accumulated knowledge. I didn't "learn" about DNA, someone explained it to me and I believed them. A caveman could do that.
