It's going to take quite a bit to get me to do anything off duty! Waaaay to much liability out there.

Same here. I'll call it in and follow from a safe distance, but will not intervene unless I believe the person is about to cause death or great bodily harm to others. Not sure how the woman was doing that in her driveway. :(

Anybody have any idea about the powers of a "gated communuty PD" in AR? Makes me think of a bad Christian Slater movie in the 89's or 90's. Was this a cop or security guard. Hybrid?

Someone more familiar with the Hot Springs area, feel free to correct me, but I am under the impression that Diamondhead, Arkansas is a true gated community, and not just a gated neighborhood. I mean Diamondhead does have its own zip code...

Here they claim to be commissioned and certified.

Think of it as a privately owned city...

Ok, I understand what the "cop" did was wrong, but I don't get why the guy shot him...from the article, he never got out of his truck, and never produced a weapon, the old man just walked up and shot without provocation...I don't get it, how was he in physical danger? I mean, I would be spooked too if someone followed me home, but I wouldn't just shoot.

as tired as this saying is...

there's gotta be more to this story.

"Ensminger said he didn’t get out of his vehicle at the couple’s home, but showed Chambliss his badge. Chambliss shot him “without provocation,” and the officer returned fire in self defense, the report stated.

Just because he has a badge he does not have the right to come down and try to kill citizens,” Chambliss said. “Every time a car pulls out behind me, we look to see if it is him.” "

something there aint smelling right.

if the home owner fired the first shot how the hell can he say that the cop was trying to come down and kill citizens??!?!?!? makes no sense at all!!!!!

I've lived half my life in central Ark. and from what I've learned, there a a lot of people from these gated communities that are a little off. Think of it like a "Desperate Housewives" type of community. I like to think of those gates as more to keep them in than us out. :D

Oliver also noted Ensminger wouldn’t be charged because he “acted with the belief he was justified under the color of the law.”

Well isn't that nice. Something tells me that your average citizen would not get that kind of "special" treatment. "Honest, I THOUGHT it was legal!"

I've always been taught that ignorance of the law is no excuse. I guess that doesn't apply in this DA's district.

And the cop bashing begins.
I think there is a lot more back story to this than what the paper covers. Sounds like maybe they both should be charged.
I didn't intend for it as cop bashing... just thought it was interesting.

Besides, does it count if he's really just a glorified security guard?? :)
