Here, but occasionally There.
We (wife, youngest son, and myself) went to H&H today to try out our new Springfield XDS 45's. Got quite a kick out of shooting that little thing, but I definitely need more practice. This is the wife's first .45, and after I shot, she asked me about the recoil. I told her "firm grip," but I think it almost intimidated her. (I had one light strike with the firing pin and had to remove and replace to fire again.) Then, she stepped up and fired off about 30 rounds. When finished, she told me that she felt that I had "tried to put the fear of....." into her. She actually did very well, both with handling the XDS and hitting the target as well. She doesn't really aim as she is right handed but can't close her left eye independently. So, she just points and shoots.

As for the expended brass, I need to remember to wear my hat next time. While the wife was shooting, I was on the floor in the next lane picking up expended brass for a friend of ours at church. I kept getting beaned on the top of the head from her ejecting brass. If I don't remember to wear a hat, I guess I need to get a wig.

Too bad we couldn't have an opportunity to shoot with BB. She is the one person here on OSA that I would definitely like to meet.

all this talk about remembering to wear a hat and spent casings reminds me of the last time i went shooting with my wife. although i never had that problem with shell casings i may have something to add to the list.

remind your wife not to wear shirts that are open at the top becuase hot spent casings may fall in and burn one of her boobs. my wife still has a burn mark on one of her boobs. (dont ask for pics becuase the may be inapropriate.)

i think it has something to do with the grip. i dont have an XD but i have several 1911s and it seems that some people get hit in the head with brass as well.

Definitely! Always tell women to wear something with a tighter/higher neckline, in spite of the fact that it really screws up the scenery. :(

I've gotten a few down the back of my collar when wearing a collared shirt. Can't stand wearing a hat anymore since I shave my head, so the casings bounce off my face occasionally, but it's not usually a big problem. Although one time, one got stuck between my shooting glasses and eyebrow.... that got taken care of VERY quickly!

All just part of the deal, I guess... I just live with it. Certainly if I wear a collared shirt, I don't tuck it in... that's no fun at ALL!

And I agree about going shooting with BB... one of these days I'ma make it over to OKC and we're gonna go. :D GC's invited, too, of course.

Muzzle always aimed down range and when the mag was out and the slide shut you did a visual. Why can I ever go to the range and be next to someone like you?

When I showed this to GC last night he said EXACTLY the same thing ...

Awwww, that's sweet. Maybe you and the wife and GC and I should work something out. We don't mind driving to shoot (and meet) ... (and then eat) :wink2:

It doesn't always matter what kind of shirt you wear. I've gotten brass down inside the neckline of a regular round-neck t-shirt before ... And I've had brass fall down the back of my shirt ... I swear all brass must have a male chromosome in it somethere ...

I agree that hot brass is just part of the fun of shooting! I've gotten it stuck everywhere, front of my shirt, back of my shirt, in my eyeglasses, I've had it fall alway the way through my shirt (post-surgery!! :wink:2) and lay on my stomach at my beltline ... I had no idea I could dance until I started shooting!! :D

I'd LOVE to shoot with y'all too!! Yeah, I guess GC can come to ... :wink2: We keep saying we need to get up to Tulsa again. He's got some time off coming up, maybe we should come up that way unstead of going to Watonga ... Hmmmmmm
