I carry Hornady Critical Defense in my Remington RM380.
Well, I made a purchase today, I bought a Walther, but not the PK380. I purchased a PPS M2 in 9mm. Now I just have to wait for it to show up.

With the weak-ish round I'm more concerned with penetration than expansion.

Good point!!!!!! Though some JHP ammo is hot enough to equal and surpass ball ammo penetration.
The Magtech Guardian Gold i tried in my LCP penetrated considerably more than the ball ammo i tried.
That's true but out of the short barrel of my "Elsie Pea",,,
I don't think they would effectively reach expansion velocity,,,
Much less penetrate through the cloth of even a spring-weight coat.
Honestly, I put down a cat with one hollow-point through the back of the head,,,
At point blank range the towel underneath the animal,,,
Stopped the hollow-point round.
I prefer to rely on multiple shots,
I practice shooting 4 rounds rather quickly, pause a moment,,,
And shoot the remaining 3 rounds,,,
Then a quick mag reload.
I realize it's not the ideal choice in cartridge,,,
But it makes me feel confidant enough.

A 100gr hardcast moving at 1150fps will prolly kill TF out of you, so...
I went with Speer GD 90gr.
