I guess im very over bearing and protective with my kid but im scared to face her forward after reading articles about waiting till she is 2... Even with spending almost 200 dollars on a nice forward facing car seat i still apprehensive

Our kids rode sitting under the back windshield or playing with each other around the driveshaft hump in the back floor board.

Guess we'd be felons now.

I remember doing the same thing with my sisters in the big station wagons we had at the time - front seat, back seat, rear-facing rumble seat in the far back, wherever we wanted to be.

At one year we turned the seat around. The rear facing can be hazardous to children that are too large to be rear facing. Basically, in the rear facing mode, the seat should surround the child like a cup against the seat back in the event of an accident. If the child is large enough that the seat cannot fully encompass them, it may be more dangerous to face rearward than to face forward. I don't know what is available in Moore, but in Broken Arrow, the fire stations used to evaluate the seats for you. You might check with local hospitals, pediatricians or police to see if someone there has that service for you.
