Prepped 40, 6.5 Grendel cases yesterday, and was going to load them. However I distracted myself and went and shot about 20 rounds of 6.5x47 in winds too high to really test loads.

The good news is that I found a load range for accuracy worth testing further. The bad news is that the velocity just isn't quite where I want it to be. Unfortunately, by the time I got to the velocity I was content with, my groups were opening up considerably.

Comparing load data; my Brux barrel is almost exactly 30 FPS slower than my Krieger barrel...And they both shot best with the same charge weight.

When that happens to me, I move to a slightly slower powder. At least an experiment.

Perhaps something to consider.

That is good advice. With this particular barrel, I was getting significant primer cratering with Varget a solid grain below published max charges. The slower end of the 6.5x47 spectrum is H4350 class powders...and Reloader 16 is right next to it regarding burn rate. I do get decent speeds with N150, which isn't far away in burn rate either.

I could try H4831/IMR-4955, but those run out of case capacity before they get any real speed going.

What I really need to do regardless is get this firing pin bushed so I can run small primers at higher pressures. I'll do that with the next rebarrel.

Fully prepped another 100 pieces of 6.5x47 brass this afternoon.

Loaded 25 rounds of Grendel. Was going to go up to 27.6gr N135 under a 108gr Scenar...but was getting a lot of crunch, and CBTO grew .005 by the time I was at 27.0.

27.0 is book max for the 123gr Scenar (108 is the exact same length), so I chickened out and reloaded the last two charge weights at the bottom of my range.
