What is your definition of the rut?

I know when the rut is on around my area. The bucks and does both dissapear, never to be seen until rut is over. Our buck to doe ratio is so skewed that the bucks don't have to chase. When they get done with one, they just pick another one standing there.
Seriously, they flat disappear.
