A Monkey Wards Western Field Manufactured by Stevens on a Browning patent model 30? It was a 12 Gauge takedown 34 inch barrel full choke the was still so good a dime wouldn't pass through it. It had been well used with almost 50 % of the bluing gone and a brazed pump arm. I had to wait for everyone else to shoot then I could shoot or I would tear up the birds. I think it was a Goose gun. I bought it when I was 16 at a farm auction north of Dover for $75.

This one is a stock photo but it's a good representation.

When I retired from the force I wanted an 870 because I wanted a modern gun with a faster pumping action for home protection and hunting so I traded in my Western Field. I carried the 870 on duty for years and was very familiar with it and its function. I hated the 870 for hunting. I couldn't hit anything. I traded that for my Mossy 500 which I can hit with.

I'm currently looking for another one just to have again. Right now I cannot afford it but it is still on my list of guns I regret getting rid of.

My great grandpa's backup Winchester 1887 that's now mine.
Nice. Is that 1887 a 10 or 12 gauge? Wanna be a little gentle with it I’m sure. I have an older 1897 I reload for and came up with a 1oz shot load that’s only around 6,800psi. It will eat a steady diet of those all day long. Also have this German Combo gun from 1891 that I load with BP in brass shells I grabbed from Buffalo Arms. Boy is that a different experience shooting BP loads, completely changes the lead and you have to about double the distance because the shot is moving so much slower than with smokeless powder.

Depends!

#1 quail and dove is Rem 1100 16 ga. Got it for Christmas 52 years ago.
When steel shot was mandated, I bought a Rem 870 Mag 12 ga. Used extensively on geese, duck, pheasant and turkey, for the past 40 years.
Squirrel and rabbit WAS Rem 870 .410, until I got a long time coveted. 410 SxS.
Skeet is a Rem 1100 LWT 20 Presentation Grade.

Surprisingly, the Browning A-5 12 ga Mag and the Rem SPS 3.5" 12 ga, remain unused. They may go to Wanamacher next week.

Bought this 1971 Belgian A5 Light Twelve two barrel set a couple years back and have yet to shoot the gun. Sounds like I really need to rectify that situation. 😉View attachment 425718
Always wanted to take this Superposed Lightning in the field. Strongly considering adding Briley chokes. View attachment 425719
For Upland Birds I’d likely bring my Browning Model 12 28 gauge with Exhibition Grade English Walnut. View attachment 425717
But if I had to pick just one and needed to put meat on the table it would be my 1947 Winchester Model 12 12 gauge Field Grade. This pic is before I finished restoring the old girl. It holds a special place being my mother’s birth year was 1947. View attachment 425716
Wow, now you’re putting on a show! Very nice guns….

I still hunt with my Browning BPS 12 ga. I bought it new with summer job money in 1981 for $180. I’ve since added a barrel with screw-in chokes. Toying with cerakoting the metal and buying a synthetic stock, but I do like wood stocks. The downward ejection is nice in a duck blind or if picking up empties. Always works, dirt, rain, sleet - always kicks them out.

My 1887 is a 12ga.
I also have a 1901 (10ga)
I shoot RST low recoil through the 1887 when I shoot it.
