My dad asked me what his Govt Smith and Wesson 1917 is worth. I know pics say a bunch but this one is a solid 8 of 10. Any clues as to what it's worth? He's wanting to trade it for a 1911 but not in any hurry, he's kinda proud of the 1917

+1,000! Don't trade it or even sell it! Sell something else, but not the 1917. That would be a tragedy, unless you sold it to me.

If it has any family history my suggestion is to keep it. Also write down the history, if that's the case. Be sure to hang onto any holsters, etc associated with it.

One of my friends has a 1917 S&W that his father carried as a pilot in WWII. It still has the original blue from WWI, as well as the serrated hammer. He also has the WWII era shoulder holster. Of course it will stay in his family.
