What's the best accessory to improve your accuracy?

The best accessory one can buy to improve your accuracy,,,
Is a brick (or more) of quality ammunition,,,
CCI-SV would be my choice.
I was shooting at my friend’s local range in League City TX and he was shooting his 10/22 take-down using Aguila ammunition. He was cursing the accuracy of his shots. I gave him a box of my CCI-SV and immediately he saw good improvement.

Possibly a stupid strategy, but seems to work for me. Get a new rifle or pistol, use the iron sights at first, get comfortable, see how well you shoot.

I don't think it's a stupid strategy at all,,,
In fact I think it's a very effective strategy to use.

Consistency is the key here,,,
Practice with the bone stock fiery-arm until,,,
You are certain that you've maxed out on it's capability.

Then when you are confident that you've wrung all of the precision out of it,,,
Meaning, your groups have shrunk to a smaller size and are consistent,,,
Then, and only then, should you start to try gadgets and stuff.

I'm as guilty of this, if not more so, than any person in this forum,,,
When I was a photographer I was a "Gadget Junkie",,,
If a new filter or flash set-up hit the market,,,
I was the first to try it out.

Same with my first rifle when I got back into shooting,,,
I purchased a nice H&R Sportster single shot,,,
Then proceeded to "accessorize" the rifle,,,
Before I had even fired one shot.

I never just went to the range and practiced with a hundred rounds or more.

Several year later (many actually) I brought the Sportster out of retirement,,,
I took it to the range and fired 50 carefully aimed rounds each trip,,,
To my amazement I eventually got 1" groups at 50 yards,,,
With the factory stock iron sights.

Off bags of course.

That's as good (maybe better) than when it was scoped.

My point is,,,
Don't upgrade your rifle,,,
Until you've fully explored what it can do in stock configuration.

By ammo,,,
Not accessories.

A friend who can really tell you what you are doing wrong, not just guess, but really knows! All the ammo in the world won't help until you know why you are not shooting well.
Another trick along these lines is to set up your phone or camera and record yourself shooting. If you know what you're looking at, it can be very telling. I did that a few times when I was pistol shooting and I tell you it was downright embarrassing.
