I feel the same about face book. Signed up for an account years ago for a request from that girlfriend. I saw what it was about and never used it again. Recently my mom joined and I was sent a friend request. I logged on to friend her and now I am bombarded with "friend requests" from all over and the keep compounding on each other. It really is a bad deal. I do not use it and will not because of their ways.

Ya, when I was a kid most of my time was spent outdoors with buddies, riding our bycicles all over the place, having dirt clod fights and playing cowboys and indians with cap guns.

That whole statement brings back memories, especially the dirt clod fights. I swear I can taste red clay right now.

I am also struggling with entering into the world of Facebook. It's getting to the point that you have to have an account to conduct your daily business.

I love the line "I use it to keep in touch with friends and family". I guess most people don't realize that the handheld chunk of plastic and metal is also a phone that you call people on. Makes it pretty easy to keep up with people that way, kinda like they used to.

We should ban the interwebz. Nothin' good comes of it.

FB is just like the rest of the internet. It is neither good nor bad. It is simply what you make of it.

I must not be very popular. I never get any friend requests that I don't know. Or I have my settings just right.

Here, but occasionally There.
Actually, I'm rather torn. I'm of the same age where cap guns and clod fights were normal, although I remember the taste of loam and sandy-loam soil instead of clay (Oklahoma Panhandle). We did not have computers and we did start out with party line phones and black and white TV.

However, we attend two different churches (one of our own and one where our oldest son and his family attend) and the one where they attend uses Facebook to keep up with church events and get-togethers. So, there has been a "very slight" temptation to sign up. But, like a lot of the others, I have a phone, so if they want me to attend something, they can call me.

I guess I'll still be hesitant.

When I was a kid the only computer of any value was the Univac. The keyboard filled one 50 foot by 60 foot office. The memory filled 6 buildings in Astoria New York. I learned Fortran 4 as my first language and Assembler as my second. The first small computer was the IBM 360. It filled a 15 by 20 foot room. My first computer that I owned was a Commadore 64. So I guess I really do not understand facebook in the way it is presented now... but if it were in Assembler language it would be very clear.

I use Facebook a lot...it's a great way to keep in touch with family and friends while I'm travelling around.

I lock down my profile, make myself 'not searchable', stay away from apps and only friend people I actually know and I have zero problems with viruses or unwanted requests.

In addition to the family connections, it is a great political information operations tool....we either get on board and use it, or lose the fight. I guarantee our polictical/anti-gun enemies are using it.

Just cause you're afraid of Facebook doesn't mean it's going away. Just like those 1911's I detest. Even though I didn't buy one cause they are dangerous and unreliable that doesn't seemed to have had much affect on the demand for them.
