Hello all, I have narrowed my choices down to the hand guns listed below but that Hi Point still lingers in my mind. I could buy a Hi Point 40 cal and a 9MM for the same price as a S&W 9MM.
I have been over seas for six years and have never owned a hand gun. My dad gave me a collectors 22 rough rider for my birthday this year, he'd been holding it for me while I was over seas. So that's all I have for now.
Anyway, the weapon I purchase will be for home & self defense.

S&W 9MM SD9 VE
Ruger SR9C
Hi Point C9

Keep saving your money. You can get a Springfield XD for around $400. Buy once cry once. It's not about quantity it's about quality, if its for self defense

Heading out to possibly buy, I've handled/held all the weapons mentioned above. The reason I rank the S&W first is I like the way it felt in my hand. The HPs were a consideration because I could get 2 for the price of one S&W or Ruger. Then the wife could have one.
The S&W is $345, the Ruger $430, the HPs 200 for the 40 cal and $140 for he 9MM.

This weapon will be primarily for home defense. Possibly a future CCW.

Ruger, but you should also look at the s&w M&Ps. Don't buy a Highpoint if you are going to trust it to save your wife's life.

Of the ones listed, I'd go with the Ruger. Like others have said, though, save up a few more bucks and get an M&P or XD. If its an "I've got to have it now" thing, then go with the Ruger.

If you must have one off your list I would highly suggest going with the ruger. If you want a very reliable firearm for a cheap price why not look into some CZ models, specifically the 82,83,85 models. These can be had for well under $400 and are excellent guns for the money.

Also take a look at these sub $400 pistols:

Rock Island Armory 1911 $350-400
Glock 17, 19 LE Trade-in 325-400
Kahr CW series 350-400
Kel Tec PF9, P11 250-300
Sig Sauer SP2022 9mm 350-400
Sig Sauer P226 LE tradein 400
Springfield xd 9mm 400
S&W surplus revolvers 200-400

There are a few other companies / models that I cannot recommend to you as I have no experience with them.
Point being is you can get some of the most reliable firearms from large companies for how much you are looking to spend.

You need to really look into can I rely completely on this firearm I am about to purchase?

These are just a few places I like to look at.
Local metro area, the only place I would purchase from is http://www.soonerstatepawn.com

I hope you take everyone's comments into consideration before you make your final decision.
