8.5 million and none from the corrupt cops pockets and the officers both received promotions?

I just don't understand the mentality...what decent person gets off on abusing power? I back them when they are in the right and they are very necessary in our society. But these people seem to have the same mentality as a lot of animal abusers...they like the power over another living thing I guess. Its crazy to think how much PD's get sued, and then continue the illegal practices. They literally use our tax dollars to pay off claims while they knowingly violate civil and constitutional rights. You would think some bean counter or some police lawyer would step in and make change. But they don't. They seem to think of it as the cost of doing business.
It would be interesting to see the disparity between revenue coerced from the citizens vs. the amount paid out. My guess is it is a net loss for most smaller to medium sized departments. Meaning they prefer just to pay the price instead of just not violating peoples rights. They just cant seem to help themselves. Probably all the little petty stops that put people in contact with cops, that then give the cops an excuse to violate rights, they are essentially paying settlements as the entry fee for those questionable traffic/Terry stops.
who needs the 4th amendment anyway LOLWhile I don’t agree with the way the cop handled this situation, it seems to me like the lady escalated the encounter by not just handing over her ID. I completely get her point of view, but more than likely, she would’ve got her coffee and her kids been able to pee without any hassle if she would’ve just shown ID.
I bet the lawyers ended up with more out of the settlement than the lady and her family.
