I used to like to fly, not that I did very much, but it was nice to drive to the airport, get on a plane, pull a few g's and be where I wanted to be faster than any vehicle. Now, it's go to the airport, be voluntarily violated by the TSA at the security check point, on the way to get a drink from a vendor, get told to freeze by the TSA for no apparent reason, after getting your drink and waiting for your flight, be harrased by the TSA once more to have your drink tested which you bought inside the security area. If I had a job that required me to fly, I would be fired for reaching my destination too late, or for fighting with the TSA agents.

Woman kicked off flight for bad attitude?

Bizarre freeze security drill

I've taken about 10 round trips this year, which means 20 trips through TSA screening in 9 months. I've yet to be 'harrassed'. I put all my metal crap in my briefcase before I even get close to the screening area, put my shoes and briefcase on the belt and walk through....done and drinkin' a beer in no time.

Folks love to get all amped up over TSA, especially folks who rarely actually fly anywhere...but other than the issue of federal government "mission creep" I don't have much trouble with them.

That "freeze" drill is some funny stuff...I think it would be amusing to watch.

Well, I get all amped up seeing these stories of people who have been there, been violated, and getting all amped up about it, and that's enough to make me not want to fly. After most of these unusual situations the TSA gets themselves into over their practices, the TSA's response seems to always be, we'll look into it.

Oh I hear you...all the stories make it sound like a nightmare. Kind of like all the internet buzz about Glock's KBing, if you went off the internet buzz you'd never buy a Glock. But once you look at the actual number of Glocks on the street and compare to the "this guy on the internet told me..." stories, the problem doesn't seem as big. Same thing is at play here.

According to statistics something to the tune of 1.7 Million...Million...people boarded a domestic flight every day on average in 2010 in this country....that's 1.7 million people passing through a TSA checkpoint every day. That puts things in perspective, for me at least.

Do we have a problem with federal government over-reach? Yes.
Does TSA have management and counter-terrorism philosphy/methodology issues? I think so.

But that's not enough to keep me from conducting my business. The biggest thing keeping me from flying for pleasure these days is the cost...costs way to dang much to move my family via air. Even with gas prices the way they are, it's cheaper for me to drive.

It's not the TSA that upsets me every time I fly - it's the airlines; their employees; and the other passengers. I remember the day when airlines treated their customers like royalty - nice, comfortable seats with actual leg room; and a nice in-flight meal if your trip lasted over an hour and a half. Nowadays you get no food onboard other than the occasional small bag of peanuts thrown at you by an overworked, underpaid flight attendant (I also remember when they were called "Stewardesses" and were proud of it!). The flights now are rarely on time, meaning you wind up sitting in an airport in a different city for longer than it would have taken you to drive in the first place. There are fewer routes with fewer planes, meaning most every flight is at or close to capacity. And added to all this are the obnoxious, demanding passengers whom I seem to get seated next to or near on every flight. So, all things considered I now find myself driving if I can get there in ten hours or less.

I've only flown twice. I had a three day weekend and went to visit a friend in Atlanta. I didn't feel like spending half of my weekend driving. I will say that I had to have had one of the most uneventful trips, both there and back. Nobody gave a care about some mid-20s guy flying solo.

I work for the airline and I have only flown 1 time in 16 years.
I'm not willing to strip unless there is some reward in it for me.
The last 10 trips were all driven. Screw em.
