I've taken about 10 round trips this year, which means 20 trips through TSA screening in 9 months. I've yet to be 'harrassed'. I put all my metal crap in my briefcase before I even get close to the screening area, put my shoes and briefcase on the belt and walk through....done and drinkin' a beer in no time.

Folks love to get all amped up over TSA, especially folks who rarely actually fly anywhere...but other than the issue of federal government "mission creep" I don't have much trouble with them.

That "freeze" drill is some funny stuff...I think it would be amusing to watch.

+1

I fly for work about once a month and have never had an issue. The one time I set off one of the scanners the TSA guy was a pro and I was on my way in about 10 seconds.

It's on the record! peanut will strip for money!

LOL, I fly a lot, and I don't give a crap what they do. Put my stuff in the tub and go on.

OOPPS! left a penny in my pocket and got the secondary exam. Got wanded, and made conversation with the guy, and dug it out, and went on my way.

The freeze thing would have drawn some opposition though in the secure area. Probably a lot of opposition. There are times when a person needs to draw a line.
Had they presented a weapon, it would have been a no brainer, but I'm pretty sure I'd have taken it to that point.

I was in a secure area awhile ago for a red eye, and a guy dropped off a briefcase in a seating area, and was at the boarding counter chatting with the attendants.

Thats not supposed to happen, so I caught a security person walking by, and pointed it out.

He shrugged his shoulders, and went on. I bailed to the other side of the concourse until boarding time, still in sight of the bag.

When we boarded, the guy went back to his brief case, and boarded with us.

I felt really safe after that.

I'm a frequent flyer (goes with the job), but I have few security issues (being a super-hero, albeit a pint-sized one, has its advantages) other than the occasional black helicopter full of blue-helmeted U.N. troops being somewhere it shouldn't be, because...blammo! Down goes 'copter!

I fly about 10 or 12 times a year. Never been bothered or harassed. Put my stuff in the tray, take off the shoes, and walk through the scanner. Done.

I've even had about 5 spring assisted open knives either willfully confiscated or mailed back to my house because I forgot I had my EDC on me walking through the scanner. No hassle or gripe. Just a "Sir, you can't have that on you. If you want we can just have an agent just escort you to the airport post office so you can mail it back to yourself." I usually do mail it back, but on a couple of trips I was running late and just let them keep it. I only carry cheap blades anyways. My experience with the TSA has been good, overall.

Most people make a big fuss over nothing and blow things way out of proportion it seems.

Damn you THORGRIM! i want you to stay and suffer with the rest of us.
Yeah, the forced shift rotation is not gonna work well for the guys with kids.
I can't wait to se the guys who have been on afternoons for 15years being forced to work dayshift for 3 months straight. That will really improve production and moral! As if it could get lower.
DOWMACE, i'll mesaage you in a bit. It looks close as far as layoff but I think it really depends on who bumps in to Tulsa from the other stations.

It's not the TSA that upsets me every time I fly - it's the airlines; their employees; and the other passengers. I remember the day when airlines treated their customers like royalty - nice, comfortable seats with actual leg room; and a nice in-flight meal if your trip lasted over an hour and a half. Nowadays you get no food onboard other than the occasional small bag of peanuts thrown at you by an overworked, underpaid flight attendant (I also remember when they were called "Stewardesses" and were proud of it!). The flights now are rarely on time, meaning you wind up sitting in an airport in a different city for longer than it would have taken you to drive in the first place. There are fewer routes with fewer planes, meaning most every flight is at or close to capacity. And added to all this are the obnoxious, demanding passengers whom I seem to get seated next to or near on every flight. So, all things considered I now find myself driving if I can get there in ten hours or less.

Haven't had too much (if any) trouble with the TSA, though I still don't like most of it.

As for airlines, I’ll give credit where credit is due: Delta, if I have the option I’ll fly with you. My last few trips had been with American, and they were typically late for one reason or another. Not a terrible experience, but not anything to write home about, either. Took my family on a vacation trip early this summer, and we flew Delta for the first time. On time, courteous, and I was good with them. The flight home, the pilot walked back and asked me if it was OK if my two sons came up to the cockpit. He let them both take turns sitting in the pilot’s seat, and let my oldest make the pre-flight announcement over the intercom. Thank you, Delta pilot – you just made a cool memory for a couple of little boys, and a customer out of me.
