Somebody above mentioned when it rains hard they go stupid. Just yesterday a fiend stopped by and I mentioned my “Why”. He said he knew we don’t watch much TV and that the local stations do send employees out when it rains hard like they do to watch Tornadoes/Snow, and report back that it is raining! Damn how stupid is that?

Every year we hear about kids left in hot cars in the summer dying. People driving out into floor waters and having to be rescued. We have had so many years of the education system being dummied down so everyone can pass that to many can't think for themselves. The gal that used spray glue on her hair because she was out of hairspray is a perfect example. Then on the other hand some people are just stupid.

Some days there's just not enough content and we have to just make silver out of tin, but here is why they're telling people how to dress for weather.

Nobody watches the local news anymore aside from the older generations, everything is on the internet hours before the news delivers it, except everyone tunes in for their weather when the forecast mentions big weather. People almost universally trust their local weather person more than the automated internet. That's also why News9 and 4Warn go wall-to-wall during weather events--ratings=ad dollars.

Since weather is the only draw to broadcast news, they make the news as much about the weather as possible.

I know I keep recycling the same stories everyday about the forecast. The chabges are subtle but people keep clicking on them. I'm going to milk it for all it's worth. Clicks=bonus.

I think part of the reason why they are falling over themselves right now is the fact that they were so behind on all of this. Usually they start talking about a freeze a week in advance, but this time they are acting like this is a sudden and once in a lifetime weather event.

The news now feels that it is their duty to tell you how to dress reeks of "they don't have common sense enough to get out of the rain." People really need to wake up. The goal is every time a disaster occurs cower in your house, the authorities will be by to save you, or we will give you further instructions (never mind trying to save your worthless to us life before the nuke hits, you may impede our journey to the beautiful shelter your taxes built for us your fearless leaders, besides we your leaders will need corpses to urinate on after detonation .) The news (who is equally moronic as politicians and will be treated the same as us in a disaster, but at least they will have a microphone and a camera), accept our word as law: "It's 31 degrees out there, get the heaviest coat possible or hypothermia could set in within seconds, if you must go out remember your obedience mask." TV News is the sheepdog of politicians, guiding the masses off the cliff of stupidity.

I absolutely LOVE that statement! Unless you object, I'll re-use it (in appropriate situations). Thanks!!

Reuse it all you want. Let's make it part of the zeitgeist that is the cosmic unconsciousness. I'll write the Wikipedia article to propel myself to fame.

Excellent idea! You have my vote for its inclusion. :D

Problematically, however... the common liberal/socialist hasn't enough functioning brain cells to even spell "zeitgeist," much less recognize your (excellent) sarcasm. On second thought, though, your Wiki article - accompanied by a sufficient amount of money, of course - would likely meet any liberal arts college's requirements to merit you a PhD. Go for it! [Either option, "dazzle 'em with brilliance" or "baffle 'em with BS," would work quite nicely.]
