I carry an XD 9 subcompact, have for about a year. I just recently spent some time at the range with my younger sister who is 5'2....100 lbs..teaching her to shoot.
She was so convinced a .380 was all she could handle and terrified of the 9 mm and .38 special...until she actually shot them. I even got her to shoot an XDM .40
She ended up buying an XD 9 SC after having shot a walther, glock, XD, ruger, m&p, LCP, and a few others I can't remember.
Sometimes we let other people put it in our heads or scare us into believing that we can't handle anything larger than .380
Ladies don't be fooled. Learn proper technique and mechanics, you can handle much more than .380
