I don't know if women have mid-life crisis or not, but my wife wants a new Jeep Wrangler. Just for driving around town, to work, etc. Kind of a "fun car" type thing.

I know nothing about them, big mistake or a great thing? Thoughts?
Lots of over priced jeeps around that never leave the pavement. Poor mileage, rough ride, not much room inside. They look cool and I guess that's enough for some. Probably the worst possible new vehicle choice on the planet. New ones have very low reliability ratings as well. No one who drives mostly city driving needs any 4 wheel drive vehicle but need doesn't seem to factor into vehicle purchase much there's days. My idiot brother bought a gladiator with a $900 monthly payment. He has a company truck they let him drive anywhere and use their gas. I've had a jeep as a 2nd vehicle and they are fun off the road. To each their own I suppose.

I have a 1997 with over 200,000 miles on it, bought it with 20,000 miles on it years ago. It has that 4 liter 6 cylinder engine. It's one of the best cars I've ever owned. I love it and cannot seem to allow myself to sell it. I've hardly done anything more than normal maintenance. It's so much fun. It does ride rough, and all the things people say about them, I don't care, it sneaks into little places in the woods with short wheel base and sharp turning. For me it's fun to drive and own, probably never sale it though I have guys offer to buy it. I've know women who had them and loved them and others who didn't. Depends on the girl I'd say.

Jeep is unique. Rough & tumble for off road, harder riding, noisy etc etc etc. We have had eight Jeeps since the mid-90's, but never a Wrangler type. Maybe we were lucky but the worse maintenance we encountered was two clogged fuel injectors, a stuck shift lever, and a hose leak.
It is a cult like following similar to Harley Davidson. (had that too!). Huge after market, the best off-road experience stuff, rallys, social events, ducks and free spirit attitude. I'm not into froo froo cars either.
I just bought the wife a new Compass 4WD Latitude Altitude. Fully loaded and really fun to drive. Our other Jeep is a Grand Cherokee Limited X.

If you look at Facebook Marketplace and auto trader, there are tons of Wranglers with between 100k and 200k miles on them. As with any brand of vehicle, there will be lemons. My two Fords were the worse and expensive maintenance cars I have owned. But are all Fords bad? It happens!

What TrekOK said. People that go of-roading in the newer Jeeps seem to be complaining about them more than a bit. Apparently they're OK on paved roads.

I'm with you. I bought my 1994 with 160,000 on it mainly as an RV tow vehicle. We use it around town when we need a 2nd vehicle for the day. However.....it's a stick ( love that because not everyone can steal it ) also it has NO fluid leaks/drips. Have contemplated upgrading but keep falling back to '"if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

I’ve had several new jeeps as rentals. They absolutely suck, terribly noisy, grossly underpowered and they have serious reliability issues.

Wife bought a new one in 2022. Zero problems, loves it.
Friends, my wife is quite possibly harder on vehicles than I am. We both maintain them very well, but absolutely drive the guts out of them.

Not sure where all these "junk" comments are coming from, so far it's been a peach. (4 cylinder, auto)I think it's got a little over 40k on it. She was looking at Broncos at the time, and those were just overpriced beyond reason. The Jeep came lifted with 35s, she added cool bumpers, sliders, winch...pretty cool stuff.

Throughout pretty much automotive history JEEP has stood for Just Empty Every Pocket lol. There will always be good ones of anything. I had a great 2003 6.0l PSD. It was the most trouble free diesel engine I've ever owned and I've owned every diesel Ford has put in a truck other than a 6.4l. That said, Ford just about went broke covering warranty claims on that engine, life long Ford customers were lost forever over that engine, and Ford ditched it (for something worse actually) after only 5y.

Can't argue one way or the other. Hers is the first Jeep in our family, so it's the only example I have in-depth experience with.
