This isn't really about hunting or fishing, but I have some coyotes out back. I live in Oklahoma City, and starting last weekend I began to hear numerous coyotes making noise in the field adjacent to my yard. It sounds like 4-5 of them are out there. Each time I hear them it sounds like they are quite close together, maybe bedding down. This is only at night or early morning, sunrise, when I hear them. I am wondering if there is anything that can be done to get them to move out of the area?

My yard is fenced, and our small dog goes out there to do his thing, then he goes back in the house. Since the coyotes came around I'm carrying my pistol outside just in case one tries to climb or dig under the fence to get the dog.

Since I'm in the city I can't go out to that field and start hunting/shooting them. On top of that, my wife heard from a neighbor the land is owned by a school, so that means no guns. There is no school on the land, but apparently the school district or city owns the land. I'm trying to find out who really owns the land, but I don't think there is anything I could do as far as shooting goes, being in the city.

Who would I call? Would the dog warden do anything? Call a game warden? Is this really anything to worry about?

Post a thread saying you want someone to come coyote hunt on your land and then sit back and watch.

#1!

I wouldn't worry in the least about them, unless you let your toddler crawl around outside the fence at night unsupervised. Doubtful anyone would be too successful at trapping them, unless you call the turtle man.

They say those urban coyotes are a different breed, But where I live you can hear them singing from every direction and they never bothered me. They were howling before I got here and they'll be howling when I'm gone.

I know the area you live in. I'd imagine even if you got rid of those there'd be more moving in right behind them. I wouldn't worry about them. There are numerous coyotes around my cabin and people there let their small children and tiny yippy dogs go around unsupervised and nothing has ever been attached by a coyote.

I've only heard one story of a dog getting attacked by coyotes but it was an old dog belonging to a hillbilly who left it chained to a tree out in an unfenced yard.

My friend had her small dog snatched away last week by a coyote. She watched in terror but could not do anything to save her dog. PD advised her she cannot shoot them cause of the city limits. Animal control told her that they do have a someone certified to take care of them once they start to attack domestic pets or animals.

Lived in the country all my life, chickens, cats, dogs, guineas and small children(me). Heard and seen coyotes all my life, never had an issue.

Other than that, poisioning is irresponsible. Coyotes won't be the only animals attracted by the bait, people's pets, and other wildlife will as well. Some people don't care about stuff like that, but those people are simple minded. Co-exist or move to the city, it's easier instead of worrying if some critter in the night will eat your dog. Could bring the pets indoors at night and keep your yard clean.

Ive never had an issue, but I don't shoot anything I don't eat, nor does anyone else in my family. So I assume the packs living around my homes were kept in check simply by their own heirarcy, dunno, but keep in mind killing off a few from the same pack often causes uncontrolled breeding and less of a well maintained group of animals. Basically creating a group of critters running amuck doing whatever they please.

Just saying.

I personally wouldn't worry about it to much. The fence should keep them away and as long as you watch your dog when you let him out ur good. Had packs and packs of wild coyote with very little issues. They usually sound closer than they really are.
