Why there wasn't an acquittal is beyond me. I believe this trial is being held in the court of public opinion by this judge.

The Judge can dismiss the charges if the prosecution has not provided proof that a crime may have been committed. In this case the Judge felt that the prosecution provided enough evidence to support their charge.
Personally I think the prosecution did more to prove Zimmerman acted in self defense.
