There is also statements from the girl that Trayvon was on the phone with that she could hear Zimmerman approach Trayvon and ask him what he is doing there. If true that casts serious doubt on Zimmerman's claim that Martin attacked him. Also by her accounts Trayvon was scared because he knew that he was being followed. And we also know that the initial investigator recommended manslaughter charges against Zimmerman so there must be some doubt of his account there.

I think this was probably just a perfect storm of unfortunate circumstances. Zimmerman lives in a community that has had a rash of break ins by guys who looked just like Martin. So he proceeded to follow him to keep an eye on him. And Martin was probably just returning from the store with some candy when he noticed that he was being followed by a man with a gun. Think about being 17, in a different neighborhood and being followed by someone who is openly carrying a gun. That would freak me out today. And I know I've been in fist fights for a lot less than that. I don't claim to know who was right or who was wrong but I'm pretty sure it didn't have anything to do with race. I have heard the 911 tape and I believe that whoever that was screaming for help is definitely fearful for their life. And whoever that person was is probably the victim in this case.

I am very surprised by the 2nd degreee murder charge and am inclined to believe that this is either a witch hunt or there really is some pretty damning evidence against Zimmerman that we don't know about yet. In the end there is a lot of stuff that we don't really know. But there is one thing that we do know. If Zimmerman would have just stayed in the car like he was told to none of this would have happened. This is why we have police. Remember the story about the old man who say his neighbor's house being broken into, called the police, then proceeded to go over to the house himself only to end up getting shot by the responding police officer? Moral of the story is let the police do their job. It would have been different if he would have actually seen Martin harming someone or at least doing something illegal. But you can't just go tracking down people walking down a sidewalk through your neighborhood even if you don't know them. I'll be especially interested to see what evidence comes out during the trial.

Where was he reported to have carried openly? Who in their right mind would get into a fist fight with someone carrying a gun openly? I'd run like my hair was on fire.

The Florida Bar Association doesn't screw around.

JB,

I'm curious what you mean by this ??

Because from my experience, some of the personal injury attorneys in FL are some of the sleaziest I've ever dealt with. Not all of them, but the least scrupulous ones I have seen were in Florida. I mean, to the point of outright lying to me and making outrageous demands (not to settlement amounts, but to terms of handling evidence, responses to their inquiries, etc). And generally I get along with PI attorneys better than most people I deal with on a daily basis.

Yeah, that really worked out well for the guy in Denver! He listened to the dispatcher, hes dead! Do you guys even live in the present? I had a dispatcher tell me to stay on the phone once when I called in about an accident and it's location, I hung up and helped the people in the accident. Guess I should have stayed on the phone and ignored them according to Books.

Each situation is different. You fail to provide any info on "the guy in Denver," so I could as easily say, "it worked out well for the guy in Des Moines'. Also, you example regarding an accident is apples to oranges in what we are discussing.

My understanding from both lawyers I have met there and from the research I did when I was looking for additional states in which to advertise a particular mass tort (back in 2009) was that they (FBA) routinely went after and disciplined attorneys at a pretty high rate. IIRC, they went after a law firm for using a pit bull in its advertisements.

That makes sense. In a state that large, it stands to reason there will be some "special" ones out there. The ones I dealt with probably just had not gotten their spankings yet :D

Thanks for the info.

Every case is different...in this case if Zimmerman had remained in his vehicle and not followed Martin on foot, as the dispatcher suggested, we wouldn't be discussing any of this today. Period. Full Stop.

you are totally right, the facts are clear that if zimmerman would have stayed in his car or driven off martin would have tracked him down like the terminator and clearly the skittles and tea were going to be his weapons to choke him to death after he jumped on the moving car and busted the window out...

I specifically remember seeing somewhere on the news one of the pundits saying that Zimmerman was openly carrying the gun. But it's been a while and I don't remember where I actually saw it. Since you mentioned it I am pretty sure that it was just left wing liberal speak for Zimmerman carrying concealed, meant to rile people up. Because now that I research it a little more it looks like he was in fact carrying concealed. I wish I remembered where I actually saw it but I do remember that it gave me the impression that Zimmerman was openly carrying on his hip and I remember thinking the same thing that you said.
