That's a mighty big if. The police did investigate and were told by the DA not to press charges because there wasn't evidence to convict. The "special" investigator was sent in to appease the masses and calm the tension. There was never a doubt that an arrest would be made and charges would be brought.

Don't get me wrong, I think Zimmerman is an idiot who unnecessarily put himself in a bad situation. I have no idea what the actual facts of the case are any more than anyone who else. That hasn't stopped anyone from taking sides. I think he created a confrontation that he could have avoided and then, probably justifiably (at least legally) shot in self-defense. I would not be shocked to find out I'm wrong either. I don't know that anyone other than Zimmerman will ever know the whole truth about what happened there.

I hope that the real facts come out and that justice is served. I have no idea which outcome is justified but I do know it will be difficult if not impossible for Zimmerman to get a fair trial. How would you like to be a juror knowing that the Black Panthers may put a bounty on your head if you don't produce the right outcome? The whole thing is a mess, that's for sure.

It's amazing to me that the black panthers aren't considered a terrorist group like the Klan.

Sadly, it's not amazing to me. :(

I also agree that if Zimmerman is acquitted (which I seriously do not think will happen now, for a variety of reasons), the fallout will be horrendous. I'm not sure that we'll see a repeat of the Rodney King verdict, but I'll also bet there will be literally SWARMS of police units all over the region when it is announced.

Actually wouldn't be a bit surprised to see "celebratory rioting" and destruction in the aftermath of a guilty verdict. :(

It is gonna be real interesting when the medical examiner / autopsy / toxicology reports on Martin & the medical reports on Zimmerman become public. If Martin has any sign of swelling or bruising on his fists [especially if there was drugs in his system] and Zimmerman had injuries to his nose & head... but none to his hands / knuckles....and especially if there are powder burns / contact burns on Martin's clothing or his hands from Zimmerman's gun.. then I think the prosecution is gonna have a difficult time making their case.

As a gun guy ready to defend myself day or night, if I were on the jury...the prosecution would have a extremely hard time trying to convince me that Zimmerman was being the aggressor. Because if Zimmerman was the aggressor, I can't ever see him allowing a complete stranger to get within 3 feet of him in the dark.... Break his nose,.... bash his head on the concrete several times risking a concussion, unconsciousness & a crushed skull capable of causing death,... then take the time & effort to call out for help just so he wouldn't have to use deadly force .... before finally drawing & using his weapon.

Knowing the 21 foot rule concerning a attacker with a knife, would any one of you guys have ever allowed a stranger in the dark to get within arms length-- close enough to get their hand on your weapon... much less beat you in a way that your skull could have been crushed and then have called for help before using your weapon... if your were being the 'aggressor'?

If Zimmerman goes to a jury trial... I think it will result in a hung jury. I can't see all 12 jurors voting guilty based on what we know so far.

Remember though, you or someone like you will not be on the jury. A jury is just 12 people not smart enough to get out of jury duty. Part of the reason we get so many screwed up verdicts. They should probably restrict how you can get out of jury duty better so that we can get a jury that doesn't consist of retirees and unemployed people.

I read the Affidavit for Probable Cause, and it looks to me to be written in an inflammatory tone:

"when he was profiled by George Zimmerman"

Profiled in what way? Profiled by race? Profiled by behavior? Profiled by clothing? Profiled by age? I would think that in an affidavit you would have to at least provide a basic support to a claim like this.

"who didn't want the person he falsely assumed was going to commit a crime to get away"

At the point in time that Zimmerman had observed Martin, I think its reasonable to agree that he was "suspcious". By the nature of declaring someone suspicious you are asserting that their behavior needs more observation to decide if their behavior is oddly suspicous or criminally suspicous.

I use the Josey Wales method of profiling:

Josie Wales: Well, that one in the center: he had a flap holster and he was in no itchin' hurry. And the one second from the left: he had scared eyes, he wasn't gonna do nothin'. But that one on the far left: he had crazy eyes. Figured him to make the first move.

When this first started, I actually went and looked at google maps and also at the diagram the news put out about the gated community including the locations of Zimmermans vehicle and where Martin was shot along with the condo that Martin was walking towards.

After you listen to the 911 tapes and the description of where Martin was walking along with Zimmermans words, it sure does sound like Martin walked the normal straight path down the walkway towards his destination past Zimmerman's vehicle and when he turned the corner and Zimmerman lost sight, that's when he left his vehicle and gave chase. The confrontation happens just around the corner of that building where Martin was killed.

When I look at the map of the locations along with the other evidence, I can't reconcile any way that Zimmerman could have been "looking for an address" or "on his way BACK to his vehicle". I think that Zimmermans own description of what he claims happened will be the thing that ends up being most damning for him.

Here is what I posted before about the maps:

This is kind of an interesting map... shows where everything went down:

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/...710580.graphic

Look it up on google maps and you'll see that the most direct path home was the one the kid was shot on. Appears from what Zimmerman said and the locations of everything that the kid just walked through the main gain off Oregon Ave, went down the road to the walking path that goes between the back sides of the condo buildings to get where he was going and that's where Zimmerman decided to follow on foot and confront him. The way the news accounts make it sound is that he was cutting through people's yards, etc... that doesn't appear to be a fair or accurate representation.

EDIT: WELL NEVERMIND... THE GOOGLE MAP LINK DOESN'T WORK AND THE MAP OF THE LOCATION THAT ORLANDO SENTINAL HAD UP IS GONE... ugh.

Some of you just NEED Zimmerman to be innocent. Ever figure tharpt maybe, just maybe, he is guilty?

Guilty of bad judgement for sure but i don't think the guy hunted down the kid in cold blood. What would be the motivation? Risk a life where you live in a gated community just to kill a punk kid. Makes no sense.
