You must never go to Brookside. That is Yuppie Central.

eh, at least there are some bikers and stuff that hang out there too.

Its nothing like the coast. They yuppies there are hardcore and will choke you to death with retarded flavored scones and vaguely Italian coffee.

LOL, depends on where at on Brookside you go. There are also alot of Bikers who stay around the Brookside areas that definetly aren't "yuppies".

Plus there are some good eats on Brookside.

Don't forget the Saturday night cruises that gather at the Sonic. I wonder if a Yuppie would know what a porcupine head was, or care ;)

I was born and raised in Yukon (just West of OKC). At the age of 19 I joined the military. I didn't hate Oklahoma, just didn't value it at all. Spent 20 years traveling and have lived in several states and 2 foreign countries. Traveled to and worked in more than a dozen other states and countries. The more I traveled the more I deep down honestly, honestly began to value this much put down state. During my military career people were ALWAYS putting down the state. They of course had never been here. The first several years I would defend Oklahoma. One day it dawned on me. One very good thing about Oklahoma is jackasses like them weren't living there. From then on when coworkers would put down this state I'd say "Yeah, you're right. Don't ever live there." My hope was to keep as many jackasses out of the state as possible.

By the time I'd gotten down to my last few years left in service I could come up with no where else I'd rather live. I had a clean slate and could take my family and start in any state I wanted to. In my opinion (an opinion that carries with it experience), on the whole, Oklahoma is a tough state to beat. It really is. I'll grant you, it's not for everybody. NO STATE IS. I've know a number of people that couldn't wait to move back to thier beloved California when the got out of the military. Good for them. Seriously. Good for them, go right ahead. I can't come up with an annual salary big enough to go live in that "flipped-up" state.

I like Oklahoma just fine. I honestly thank God in heaven that I moved away, traveled and now have a deep appreciation for this state AND it's people. Is it perfect? No. NO STATE IS. But I love it for what it is and the many, MANY things it is not. Some days, it's the things it is not that I am the most grateful for.

Recently I've heard some negative comments from some Oklahoma transplants. They say that Oklahoma is a dry, dusty, rundown place with no jobs and lots of crime. They say that the people are backwards and that the place is a dump. Can anyone here provide an unbiased report of life in Oklahoma? I’m looking to do a lot of hunting, fishing and gardening. I'm a teacher and my wife is a nurse.

Yes all they said about Oklahoma is correct. Horrible place to move to.

But some of those bikers are yuppies! They are just dressing the part. Hell, some of might be the guys who buy "Sons of AnarchY" colors on EBAY.

I have some clients that are definitely 1%'ers. They are more polite to my staff than some of the so-called Christian folk. ;)

Agreed. There are some who have jumped onto the "riding a bike is cool points" group, but those are usually easy to pick out.

I work with a guy who dresses nice(express & what not) to work, but is a fully sleeved biker outside work. Loves his Harley & has touched every piece of it make it his own. We always joke around about all the new yuppie riders he sees while sitting on the patios on Brookside. You know the type, ordered a Honda that looks like a Harley & try to talk about it like its made from solid gold while wearing the brand new leather with the tags still on them, LOL. Same guys you watch struggle to not dump it getting out of the parking lot.

Well, God forbid you miss a chance to mention that old chestnut.

I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, but Oklahoma is not the best place to live.

I was born and raised here, lived here my whole life except for a year that I spent in Arkansas going to school. Our politicians are pretty much morons and are running the whole state into the ground. We have a budget crisis still looming. I started my current job in December of 2008, six months later we took a 5% pay cut and I just barely made it through the lay offs by the skin of my teeth. My wife is a teacher and hasn't been able to find a full time teaching job here in the last 10 years that we've been married.

Because of the lack of funding in the educational system and the low pay for our teachers, most of the really talented teachers have defect from Oklahoma to $$$er pastures over the last 15 or 20 years, causing a drought of quality teachers here. Not good for your kids. (Hell, most school districts here aren't even paying their substitute teachers any more).

Crime isn't all the bad, but our roads suck and are littered with garbage. There's little to nothing to do that isn't weekend bar hoping, movies or Indian Casinos. Our educational system is in shambles and most of the school systems are laying off teachers, not hiring new ones. And we always get at least one, usually two major snow/ice storms that pretty much cripple the state every year. Our 2A situation is pretty much the same as Florida's and you have access to all the same NFA stuff so that shouldn't be a reason to leave.

Sure there's plenty of outdoors stuff and some state parks, but they are just run of the mill. Nothing super interesting. Given the easy access to the coast line and it's associated "scenery", the mostly mild climate, and all of the unique wildlife in Florida, I can't see a reason to leave for Oklahoma unless you are being offered a really, really good job.

Spoken like someone who's never spent any time anywhere else. I've lived in Missouri the past 8 years, in Kansas, and in Europe. I'll take Oklahoma any day.

Especially these days. Oklahoma has one of the strongest economies of any state. And I hate to break it to you, but all state governments and nearly every school district and local government in the US has severe budget problems.

Oh, and my wife taught in the Putnam City School District for 12 years. Schools in Oklahoma aren't perfect, but at least they are accredited by the state, which hasn't been true of the Kansas City, MO School District for at least 11 years.
