Anyone know anything about Route 66 gun smith in Tulsa? I don't know how to detail strip a 1911 and he said he would show me how to do it and not charge me anything. That kind of worries me that he won't charge anything.

It don't take over a couple of minutes to detail strip a 1911 and not much more to put it back together, no tools are needed unless you have a really tight barrel bushing. I would say the Smith is just being nice and probably hoping you will remember him for other work.
I think you're absolutely right. I've taken a couple of guns to The Hunter's Den in Chouteau and not been charged(minor things wrong with both).

You just defined what's called in the Army (at least in the early '70s when I was in) - field strip.
A detail strip is quite a bit more complicated and time consuming.
