I personally thing they are fine rifles. Inexpensive, Smooth action, Relatively accurate, Cheap ammo, High quality of manufacture. Some have dinged up stocks, but nice ones can be found.

+1 I cant with good conscience advise anyone to get a Mosin for their first milsurp. It's like teaching someone to drive with a standard. Most will say eff it! I'll just walk! They are good rifles if you dont mind banging on the bolt!

So far today, I've seen a MAS 36, a Garand, and a Spanish Mauser at SSP, and the 1903A4 clone here. The Mauser and the MAS are in a better price range for me, but that's not the only consideration.

Good analogy!
If you can't drive a manual - you shouldn't be driving.
If you can't appreciate a Mosin - milsurp is not for you.

MAS36 is possibly the worst rifle ever made - if you like it - you are in!
a) you can safely carry rifle by the trigger - 14# trigger pull on 7# rifle
b) you can permanently conjoin two rifles by stacking two through bayonet tube - seriously it was part of a "surrender' design.

Not that I ever doubted it, but that confirms that I am in. I really like my MAS 36.

MoBoost, I ended up getting that 1917 rebarrelled by Chuckindenver. It shoots better than me now.

Do you know how you adjust those sights? Hint ... you don't! They had 25 rear sight with different position of drilled whole that moved POI at the armory.

I meant the sight picture. But the adjustment sounds like a problem. I didnt know that!
