The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) in its study, Police Use of Force in America 2001, defined use of force as "The amount of effort required by police to compel compliance by an unwilling subject." The IACP also identified five components of force: physical, chemical, electronic, impact, and firearm.

I think your asking a lot of four cops and one security guard to detain one person with out hurting him.

All were LEO, 1 Moore Police Officer, working off duty security in uniform, 2 Fish and Wildlife Officers in uniform, and two on duty uniformed Moore Police Officers, there was no "Security Guard". All were uniformed commissioned officers. As far as detaining him without hurting him, I'll wait till I see the video. I may not have stayed in a Holiday Inn Express, but I did watch a Cops marathon, and sometimes it takes a couple of guys or more to take on large man down.

I'm usually pretty heavy on the criticism of law enforcement, but all reports indicate that this dude was a least a little combative/uncooperative, and while I question the ethics of off duty police officers contracting out their authority, he probably needed some physical coercion to comply.

Your daughter is in a restaurant parking lot and a man (a. gropes her, b.flashes her, c. busts her nose.) A bystander sees it and runs into a business and tells an officer there is a problem outside and who comes out to investigate. A hectic commotion is ongoing and a lot of screaming from everyone. The man turns and says I'm out of here. The cop who didn't see anything tells the man to stay here, I need to figure out what is going on. "f you, I'm leaving, this is America, I have rights." Would YOU let him go or try to detain him? Serious question, what would you do?

What would you do if you were a leo?

If the police let him go and didn't stop him, the peanut gallery here would have 100 pages of posts blasting the police for not doing their job and why everyone should be forced to open carry...
AND, the first person who responds about "beating a man to death" needs to have the facts first AND be required to ride along with a leo. They should be allowed the opportunity to arrest a person who doesn't want to be arrested.

Additional observation? I read in today's paper the wife has the phone back and her lawyer told her not to release the video to the media. I can't figure out why? Wouldn't you want the truth to come out for all to see? My first thought is that there is nothing damning on the video against the police. If there was, it would be on CNN by the end of the day....

If I was a LEO I would smoked both of their ass's of course.

Sad how this story is morphing into a twisted version of non-truths.

My wife came home from work this morning and said "Did you hear about the Moore PD shooting a guy in the Warren parking lot for slapping his daughter?"...

Face palm.
