This needs to happen. Even some things that are posted in bad taste but not actually nude or anything have resulted in moderator action. Gets pretty boring when you can't be the full blown smarta$$ that you want to be.

One other thing to consider is the fact that this community has changed over the years. There's many people that would vote "no", and share opinions, on this topic that are no longer here because of way this community has evolved...so this poll/discussion is biased in that way. That's why it's important to consider what we want for the future of this forum, because although making an "adult" forum won't affect much now...it will affect how this community grows and how it's perceived in the future. I like the filthy stuff just as much as anyone else, but I don't think OSA will grow to it's fullest potential if it's here.

If you want evidence, I have a meta-analysis about online forum evolution, community, and in-forum (member) to out-forum (non-member) community relationships. Looking at over 400 forums, and over 5 million people, one of the largest replicable effects is the negative relationship (with any outcome of choice) of adult-themed sub-forums...with one exception, in the case that the main forum is porn based to begin with. It's under review at the journal Science, so I can't share it yet...but it's coming.

There are mechanisms within vBulletin (the software the runs the forum) that make it easy for the mods and admins to set this hidden area up. You'd have to specifically request admittance to that area, and if you don't, the section won't show up on your front page, nor will any of the posts from that area show up in when you click "Show new posts." I'm a mod at another forum, and we have this set up. Very handy, very simple. Don't worry about the mechanics. Just understand that if you don't want to see it, then you won't have to.

I think you misunderstood and think this section would be a porn section. It would not be a porn section. Cursing wouldn't be frowned upon. Distasteful jokes about somebody's political choices wouldn't be frowned upon. This area shouldn't even be seen by newbies. If they want to join in more adult content, they have to be an active member for 90 days, and then petition for membership, this would also help to weed out the juvenile members.

Got to disagree again on this one. It will in fact help the board grow, you cannot tie adults hands up. Give them an area to play in and the rest of the board will grow, the rest of the board will cleanse itself. And more activity will occur in the General Sections of the main site's reason of existence. I have seen it do so on three different sites, Motorcycle, ATV, and UTV sites.

The very things that you moderators will have to moderate will slowly self police, you will see people erase threads, you will see people post things like "take this to the Hotbox", " this belongs in the Hotbox" etc. etc. And it will be easier to maintain.

I have not been here all that long, and I really don't see much at all wrong here, great group of people, I don't see nasty porn, bad language, threats etc etc. anyway on here. This is already a great clean board. But it still needs a venting place, a no rules place.

A highway near you.
I dont see a problem with having an "Adults only" section. Seems the last time they tried a crackdown on "bad" people and tried to make this site a church social a lot of people left...many never came back.Im sure the previously mentioned 17 month absent moderator remembers that.

Yukon is that you or Veggie Meat. With all this data talk. It looks a little deceiving.

Oh by the way, how is the moderators only section going? I can't see it, (I don't have permissions to see it) much like the "other area" could be set up.
