Stillwater City Manager Norman McNickle informed the News Press shortly before 11 a.m. that the Southwest Power Pool had just elevated the Energy Emergency Alert issued for its 17-state territory to Level 3, the highest level.

A level 3 alert means the power supplier can no longer meet the demand for all of its customers and power curtailments could become necessary.

If that happens, member utilities will not receive enough power to meet all their customers' demand and may have to implement temporary rolling blackouts.

McNickle said the City of Stillwater doesn't know yet how much its operations will be impacted or what measures will have to be taken. It depends on how much of the load has to be shed, he said.

Ummm... this doesn't make sense. There is a "cost of gas" adjustment on your bill that accommodates increases and decreases in what ONG pays. ONG neither benefits nor suffers as this changes, their rate stays the same, the cost of gas is just a pass through charge.

But what ONG makes is based on how much gas they sell... so why would they want you to buy LESS gas??

The current situation is stressing the delivery system and that's the main concern... it is also going to cause your bill to be higher, which doesn't make ONG particularly happy because they are the ones you are going to yell at when it gets billed. Yes, there's plenty of gas but getting it to you, and not pissing you off too much are present issues.

Otherwise, ONG would rather sell you more gas, not less. Why would they unnecessarily try to get you to buy LESS product?
Yes, at the end of the year we always get a remittance for the adjustment to the cost of gas during that year.

Wagoner got hit by a "scheduled blackout" today at 1240. I was on the middle of work and it just shut off, I had no idea it was happening. How did they notify it's customers of it's scheduled black out? By a facebook post last night (I don't have Facebook) that they may need to, and a post 2 hours ago that they may do it soon.

OG&E told KOCO 5 that for the first time in its history, it is implementing temporary power service interruptions for customers across its area.

Officials said people should expect that they will lose power as long as an hour over the next few days, perhaps multiple times.

Officials told KOCO 5’s Dillon Richards that this is to preserve the integrity of the power grid and avoid a situation where the grid gets overwhelmed and prompts massive regional blackouts.

OG&E customers should be prepared for temporary outages at any time, officials said, and that there is no endpoint right now.

Seems like poor planning, esp about SPP. Most people never heard of them till today. I know we are in record cold temps, what happened to all the caverns that used to store natural gas...
