Never hit a million and more than likely won't at this stage of my life, I was fortunate in that I worked overseas for several years making pretty good money and that put us ahead of the curve financially for when I finally did decided to settle down back around 81'.

Although in a way I suppose I currently am rich.......I've got a good woman that loves me, we have a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs, food in our bellies, no bills, both of us are relatively healthy, we don't want for anything and we've got a few pesos in the bank.

Our cars have a combined age of 32 years and almost 400k miles

Sounds like you drive new cars like me.
My 2 gas savers have a combined age 40 years old and over 500,000 miles.
My 2 fun cars have a combined age of 138 but only about 200,000 miles on them.
Then the single car that is 93 years old and will need to be really worked over to get it going.

If Fred Sanford was rich then I am also based on my back yard looking like his. :)

In my senior year of high school, my economics teacher stated by the time my graduating class hit retirement age we would need 1 million to retire comfortably. He didn't account for the inflation the bleeping covid stimulus has caused. :censored: What was a million 13 months ago, isn't a million today. Oh well, one thing I learned in college, life ain't fair.

I haven't attended one of Dave Ramsey FPU, but I listened to many of his shows on AM radio and I follow some of his suggestions.

One of my favorite poems that has stuck with me over the years.

by Ralph Waldo Emerson
To laugh often and love much;
To win the respect of intelligent persons
And the affection of children;
To earn the approbation of honest critics
And to endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To give of one's self;
To leave the world a little better,
Whether by a healthy child,
A garden patch
Or a redeemed social condition;
To have played and laughed with enthusiasm
And sung with exultation;
To know that even one life has breathed easier
Because you have lived
This is to have succeeded.

If you get a chance to see Dave Ramsey live he is very entertaining. My dad used similar methods and taught them to my brother and I long before Dave was on the radio.
