Herd culling.

Unless they have some kind of biological data dictating the need, I ain’t buying that one. I’ve participated in those kinds of deer studies, and there aren’t many places that legitimately need “culling”.

Activity all around me today. My target buck alternated between chasing does and running off a smaller buck that kept returning. I was set up in the wrong spot today, but it was a great day just watching everything. I’ll be trying again tomorrow.

I saw one with one 4" antler today at the processor.

He might be a meat hunter, some people don't care about antlers. I get it, they don't really taste that great.

Edit - 4" may be a gift, likely two or three.

We have some “meat hunters” I’ve known for years as co-workers next to the Salt Fork place. They shoot anything that has an antler.
I pulled up to their truck a couple years ago with a 150” buck in the back of mine. Their 90 lb field dressed fork horns couldn’t compare to the approx 190 pounds of field dressed buck in mine. I keep telling them to shoot does and let the bucks walk to get bigger so they have more “meat”, but it fell on deaf ears.
That’s the reason I don’t hunt that property. Years of game cam videos show nothing bigger than 120” bucks.
It takes cooperation among neighbors to make big bucks.

The asshat that hunts my fence line has ruined it here thinking the 8 point bucks are trophies. Half the deer on cameras now. Does nothing to help improve genetics . Just wants to kill deer and gloat on how many he harvested.

This is probably not going to be well received by many folks on here, but I pretty much call it like I see it.
One thing I found out when I started deer hunting in Oklahoma 20 years ago is that the vast majority of OK resident hunters have an almost obsession with “filling their buck tag”.
It sounds like your neighbor is definitely that kind of hunter, and unfortunately for you, his actions are going to directly affect your hunting.
As I’ve mentioned many times, I’ve got fence hunting neighbors too, but they at least attempt to kill mature bucks. There’s a good chance when the land owner south of me dies I’m going to end up with an outfitter for a neighbor which could very well change everything for me.

Saw 8 total this morning, 3 of which were bucks. Zero interest in the does. Saw 2 does, 3 fawns and a buck tonight sitting close to the house to observe the new deer travel routes this year.

The weather tomorrow could be interesting. I'm not scared of some moisture, but i sure as hell don't enjoy sitting in it when deer hunting. All of my blinds are setup for archery only range...

Those don't bother me too much as they're limited to one buck tag during muzzleloader and rifle. If they take one during muzzleloader that's a dink, it was likely to get pushed out during pre-rut anyway. Maybe it's me being positive?

The clowns down here will do a drive and kill everything that runs out. And not just young hunters. The old times folks are worse.

Couple knot headed fawns, 1 doe, and a small 8 point for deer today. Five skunks in the field as I walked out, was like a mine field!
