Personally, I'm with the "I don't have enough info to pass judgement" crowd. I wanna know what happened before I say "jail the owner". Heck, we don't even know that the dog had an owner.

Well, just in case I was unclear in my earlier post... any dog that will attack a 2 year old badly enough to be hospitalized needs to be put down. You just can't have that.

I was just wanting to jump in preemptively on the pit hate.

I am in the "not enough info" group. I had a scary incident happen on Friday. We have 2 Pit Bull pups, (just turned 1 last week). Great temperment, love to run and play, but do not understand how strong they are. When they play, they are so clumsy, and big, they fall all over the place.

Last Friday, they got out. Keep in mind, we have a fenced back yard, but they can run and clear the 4' chain link areas. I am in Chicago for a couple more weeks and can not put up more privacy fence until then. So we got a 6' tall dog run in the meantime. They have been fine, but Friday they tore the chain link fabric off of a corner of the pen, and got out.

What scared us was it was an hour before the school bus was due. They are not mean, but was afraid that a kid would get scared and start running, and the dogs would think they were playing, and end up hurting them. Luckily we found them, no one was hurt, and we put them on chains temporarily. I hate chaining dogs, but for right now, it is the most responsible thing to do.

Not real sure about crucifying the owners, sometimes dogs are like kids, you do your best and they are stubborn or just find a way to get out. Not sure if this is the first time they have gotten out, if they are vicious, or just playing or what the injuries really are. I know if my two year old is hurt, we are going to the hospital to be sure. Sounds serious though if they admitted her. Prayers for the little girl and family, and for the dog owner's family if it was a fluke. Not saying that any mean dog should get a pass, but am tired of demonizing breeds.

Kirk make sure you have your city licenses and rabies tags on them. even the 6ft privacy fence is not a pitbull deterrent. Eve is scared of jumping the fence she she got stuck in the tree doing it once but we still have issues with her destroying sections of fence and roaming the neighborhood. If you want a fence the pit's can't jump you'll have to go 8ft, 6ft is just a sugeestion to stay in the yard for a pit.

And yeah it scares me to death when they get out we have had eve 4 years and maggie 3.5 years they were both raised with my son and are used to playing with neighbor kids so they make a beeline straight for children normally.
