2021 Deer Chatter/Pics/Excuses

Started my deercation Friday. Took a friend to get his first one and he was so excited! Been taking my girl all over for awhile now and it’s been tough, bad luck this year. Hopefully get her on one soon. Pics have been horrible for over a week now. Anything mature is middle of the night. Scrapes active everywhere still. I’m not seeing anything locked down but I figure any day now. My lease partner took down our #1 yesterday evening. Was sad at first but got pumped up after seeing the deer and how happy he was. Couldn’t happen to a better guy. Really excited for these next 2 weeks. He seen another shooter that we have zero pictures of. We are gonna hunt that same spot this evening. I think the best hunting is yet to come. I’ll be hunting trails all this week. I wish Tapatalk still worked and I’d be on here more often.

10pt with a drop tine or more like extra spike on the bottom. Maybe I will see that one in a few. Ole Ridge Runner. From the looks of rack to end of ears should be good one. Don't know hard to judge sometimes from crummy angle.

This guys had a rough week. Got a dozen pictures of him last Sunday without a scratch on him. Now he shows up all beat up on the right side. Zoom in on his neck

Thursday morning i had a solid 3 year old come into 20 yards. I had a shot but he's getting a pass from me this year. He spent all night Thursday night chasing a doe. View attachment 234162

Thursday night i had multiple does and fawns around at dark. Figured i would grunt aggressively to bugger them out so i could get down. Instead i hear crashing and a fast paced walk. 2 minutes after shooting light, my only current target buck marches in to 5 yards, super mad. He stomps one way then the other, looking for the imposter. He hangs out for 10 minutes then leaves. Pic from later that night as it's a better pic. He's old and beyond his prime, i think.

Same conditions last night. I tried grunting earlier a few times. Waited for some yearlings to leave and i started to get down. Next to last step and here comes a stomping mad deer. Damn it, awkward tree stance until i cramp. He doesn't buy it and bounds off, blowing twice. Had better conditions tonight but gave it a rest since he busted me.

Makeithappen, on another forum, a guy stated that he uses a coyote call if deer are still in the immediate area and needs to get down from his stand. The deer will generally move out for a while as the coyotes are barking but will come back after it settles down. Seems to work. I downloaded a .wav file and just play on my phone as loud as possible.

Well my #1 hit list buck came through at 7:45 with a doe this morning while I’m at work. I sat in that stand for hours yesterday afternoon and evening. Figures

Very similar thing happened to me yesterday. Saturday hunt was slow and I sat a stand where generally lots of activity. Local farmer said he thinks the bucks are locked down and should start showing back up soon. I couldn't hunt that same stand on Sunday morning due to wind. Pulled the SD cards before I left then viewed last night. One of 4 targeted bucks was on the food plot for about 30 mins around 08:30 within 30 yards of my stand multiple times! Someone is telling them my plans! Probably those damn raccoons.

I don’t hunt but saw this guy while out riding my bicycle.

Going out saturday morning for the first time this year.

Guy I am hunting with has been often and only taken a doe, he says he is not seeing a lot of movement. Cam pics show lot of activity at night.

He said last weekend he saw a couple small bucks running together and a few does. The rut should be kicking in any time now.

We shall see, if anything a decent doe will be fine with me.

Didn't hunt yesterday as i had some things to do and it was hot. Wrong move. New guy showed up with several minutes of light left....

Hunted this morning until 11 and didn't see a dang thing. Every camera was quiet except for where raccoons were trapped.
