Why not use a square function? Seems like that would be more fair. With as few tags as there are, I suppose the current allotment system is the most fair. We just need more elk.

I agree with needing more elk but a lot of people that draw tags haven’t been putting in very long I know of several that drew a bull tag the first time applying imo that’s not fair

It would square your odds based on the number of years you’ve applied:Im not entirely sure what you mean by square function, but my assumption is that the number of people with 20ish+ preference points is greater than the number of tags available in any given year.
Plus 1000.
I wonder how many out of state applicants there are also? Not Okies that moved out of state but folks who’ve never lived here that are putting in and possibly getting drawn out.
It would square your odds based on the number of years you’ve applied:
2 year applicant (4 preference points)
10 year applicant (100 points)
25 year applicant (625 points)
It would still be a lottery system and they could cap numbers drawn just as they do now. Your likelihood of being drawn is exponentially higher if you’re a seasoned applicant.
Just because the system can’t be perfect, doesn’t mean it can’t be better.Understood. I just think there are too few elk tags and far too many applicants for there to be any truly fair allotment system. Someone will always be left in the cold.

What part of NE Oklahoma? There was a guy in the NE part of OK that would guarantee you a draw. You would pay him a fee for this of course. Upon him informing you of your successful application he would collect a second fee. C'mon boys, you know this has to be worth it! Now the state lets you buy preference points, a similar system that involves extra money collecting, right? This guy's system was a bit more guaranteed for a bit more cash. Your gonna have to play to pay for this kind of treatment. He would escort you by vehicle to your hunt location before sunrise. Direct you to the best likely location and send you on your way with plenty of time before shooting light. This is exactly how most participants remembered it. As you would start working your way down from ridge to ravine the light would just begin to to peak over your shoulder lighting up 'Your Draw'. Shortly after the sun warmed your back you'd pursue your quarry or perhaps even fire a round at your trophy to break the heavenly bliss of nature and interrupt the silence with a thunderous roll. Moments later you might be privileged to meet the land owner or eventually even be graced by the presence of a game ranger. Do any of you remember the guy that ran these 'Draw Hunts'? Seems like it was 5 -8 years ago.
