If you’ve got acorns, you’re more than likely not going to see deer at feeders. I’ve got the same issue at both my places here in east TX, and that along with the rut, my cameras activity has been near dead.
Agreed. Acorn crop (especially after/during the high wind we’ve had lately) has definitely changed the feeding patterns I was seeing on my cameras. I had does finish all the corn on the ground for the past few weeks until around 5 days ago. Now, it looks like I’ve dumped a bag of corn under the feeders.

Had my first buck show up today in the background on the cam.

Missed the biggest buck I've ever seen on this piece of public. I under shot the distance and didn't steady my shot well enough, rushing it. Me and a buddy searched for blood with flashlights for a couple hours. The more I play it over in my head, the more convinced I am that I missed. This one will stay with me for awhile.

I climbed the same tree I was in opening morning. I was hoping for another doe, or a spike. I don’t hunt big bucks intentionally even though there are some bruisers up there. Then this guy walked in. FWIW he did not seem to be even thinking about the rut.

That’s a dang nice buck, and I’m totally jealous of your hunting rig. Congrats!!! :thumb:

Hunted yesterday morning on public land and saw around 30 deer. Movement was almost non stop until I left around 10. In all the deer that I had seen there were 4 little bucks and does and fawns. No decent bucks. The little bucks were harassing every doe that came around though.
Good luck everyone.

This has been one of the worse muzzleloader seasons I ever remember. Opening weekend was a bust then with the hot and dry conditions, I decided to put up a new tower blind, feeder and food plot on my neighbor’s place for rifle season, then went to work on the barn I’m building rather than waste time sitting in a stand and not seeing anything. Heck, at least I got a lot of work done on the barn. 😁

I hunted a few times since Tuesday night’s rain and saw some activity, but nothing like a normal year. Last evening, I decided to sit in the new tower blind if for nothing else but to maybe pattern the deer crossing the power line. There has been a high volume diesel powered water pump running for a week straight right on the north property line, pumping water to a drilling rig a couple miles away. Yesterday afternoon, they must have taken it away for service, repairs or something because it wasn’t there. I was sitting in the tower blind and look over to see a big dark horned buck standing within 30 yds of where that pump has been for the last week. Even from 450 yds, I could tell he was a shooter. Just a tad outta range for the ol’ muzzleloader though.

I am back in the tower stand this morning but looks like it will be a washout later today and tomorrow. At least I am now encouraged for what rifle season might bring. Hopefully the rain, fresh food plots and cooler weather will bring increased activity.
