Mossberg 930 SPX is a decent choice for an auto gun on that budget, and have money left over for ammo/accessories. But the mentioned FN SLP is probably even better, if it's found within the budget - excellent choice, IMO.

Practice like you play. Forget the 24", IMO. Only reason for those is gamesmanship, to extend the mag tube. Unless you're REALLY gonna use the 24" for home defense (which is terrible for going around corners), then forget it and run with an 18-19" with a full length mag. Practice like you play (i.e. fight).

I have a FN SLP MK1. It has the 22" barrel with rifle sights. I have a Burris FastFire on if and am really liking that.

I probably wont be at the December 3 gun but will try to be at the January 3 gun.

Ok, quick tally; how many folks that replied to this question thus far have even shot a three gun or a similar competitive shotgun match?
I know of three including myself. :)

To answer you, firecop, the 21"
Benelli ribbed barrels are most optimal but my recommendation was made in lieu of the op's budget.
Ribbed barrels are faster sighting than any other type or front/rear sights and work well when shooting typical 3gun targets.
They are accurate enough to get me fist sized groups with slugs at 75yds.
As far as the gamesmanship comment; it sounds very "internet gunboard anecdotal". My 3gun benelli is my duty shotgun and it holds 9 rounds in "cruiser ready" condition.

OK...Interesting. What you usually see on a duty shotgun is anywhere from 14-18". That must be the Benelli you got from me.
