Drive belt gets wet, like riding the river, they go no where fast and my '84 ATC 200x pulls (barely lol was not easy nor do I recomend it with such a small machine) a can-am renagade to the sand bar to dry out (actually has a draincock on the belt housing if I recall correctly).

Belt drive though I will say is nice to drive for general riding and such. I like them just not for certian things (IE River lol). As for getting wet generally they are suposed to be sealed, that one just had the belt replaced at the dealership and we had been in and out of the river all day.

Really they all make very solid machines. But I never really been a fan of the artic cats. My dad has one and its given us lots of trouble. CV shafts, rear end, and electrical sticks out the most but has been others.

On the farm we have a 2001 Polaris 700, 2005 honda rubicon, 2006 polaris 800 EFI and a 2012 can am 650. I absolutely love the 800EFI,but the new canam will flat outrun it. The honda has help up great, but so have both of the polaris'. My opinion is a new polaris, but that canam is sweet $h1t.
